Catholics Back Illegal Immigrants? (God's law to replace U.S. immigration law?)

Catholics Back Illegal Immigrants?

The Catholic church has started a very controversial campaign called Justice for Immigrants.

The campaign hopes to use God's law to replace U.S. immigration law.

The church also wants lawmakers to develop a plan to help bring their families to the U.S. as well.

According to the church, the Bible says to care for the poor, the weak and unfortunate.

The church says that includes illegal immigrants.

But many El Pasoans believe how the Catholic church interprets the Bible should not be above how the U.S. allows illegal immigrants into the country.

While the Catholic church insists compassion is their only motivation, many believe the church is failing to realize the borders of the sovereign United States.

Our archbishops catholic appeal envelope was "accicdently" thrown in the trash. I suspect arround here many had the same fate. Siding with the illegals here with local catholics is not a good idea. We used to give and give generously. We received a letter saying that we must have accidently tossed the request..... The best message we can send.....

Like I asked my wife "If these illegal immigrants were Hindu would the church be asking us for help and would they be taking this stance. Their ass is showing".

This is an EXTREMELY poorly written article! What does it mean by "The Catholic Church is starting..."? Is that Pope Benedict XVI? a Cardinal? The Bishop of El Paso? A single pastor acting on his own? A group of lay Catholics? A group of illegal immigrant lay Catholics? A group that calls itself Catholic but is really an immigration group? An individual who told the station that she's the Catholic Church?

I don't think the writers of the article know much about how the Catholic Church works. Or, maybe they do, and want to dupe people into believeing that something non-authoritative is authoritative.

Respecting the civil law and being a good citizen is a virtue. No one is stating that the people entering the US illegally cannot go through the process of legally entering the US.

Breaking immigration laws, putting unnecessary burdens on tax paying Americans and corrupt governments (Mexico) is the real sin here.

The Catholic Churches physical borders are somewhere in Italy. They can refrain from establishing ours in the USA. Where the spirtitual borders lie is up to the Christians who follow. Not one dime!!!

While some American bishops may interpret the teaching this way, it is not what the Church teaches.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.
Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.

I'm waiting for the Catholic Church to call for G-d's Law to supercede Roe v. Wade and "gay marriage." I think I'm going to have a long wait.

The irony in this situation is that the "palaeos" to whom race and culture are everything are mostly militant Catholics, considering it the true spiritual tradition of "Western Civilization." They wave the Papal flag and invoke medieval Europe while screaming about the high birthrates of their non-white co-religionists, all the while blaming Israel (???) and never noticing the Catholic Church's pro-immigrant position.

Delicious!

If they were all swarming into the Vatican, I'm sure the church would find a new interpretation of the Bible.

Charity is a proper job of the Church.

Charity IS NOT the proper job of the Government.

If the Church wants to support illegals, let their parishiners put their money in the plate!

It is Christian to give ONLY when done cheerfully and willingly. Stealing from those who do not want to give to people who are law-breakers, people who want others to support them (if a man does not work..he does not EAT!!)..is NOT Christian.

My guess is that the American Catholic Bishops and priests that are taking this position are of two backgrounds - Jesuits, who are usually more "liberal" and priests who were educated on "Liberation Theology" in the seminaries in the sixties and seventies.

If they were really interested in alleviating the poverty of the Mexicans that come here, they would be down in Mexico demonstrating against the entrenched socialist, elitist political class in Mexico that keeps its own financial coffers full by helping the crony capitalists keep their monopolies and keep out too much foreign competition. It is those policies that maintain the poverty of the Mexicans that migrate here. Nafta was supposed to change this but the ruling elites have never allowed Mexico to open up as the backers of Nafta expected.

You want to care for the whole world filled with the throw
aways of other countries ..that is fine...

Do it in their own countries...missionaries are great...

Do not bring them here or let them invade...

Do not steal my money or my familes money to support them
without my approval...

Do it on your own time with your own resources..
