Part of Australia's 12 Apostles Collapses

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -

One of Australia's 12 Apostles has disappeared. One of nine limestone stacks that made up the famous landmark off Australia's southern coast collapsed into the Indian Ocean on Sunday - apparently a victim of coastal erosion.

Park ranger Alex Green said a family of sightseers watched in amazement as the 150-foot tower collapsed, leaving only eight stacks.

"They said it sort of shimmered or shuddered and then fractured and collapsed straight down on itself - it was almost like a building demolition," he said.

The formation off Victoria State, called the 12 Apostles even though there had been only nine outcroppings, draws tens of thousands of tourists each year. It stands close to the Great Ocean Road, which winds along the coast.

I have no idea where this natural structure is located, but it was sizable, apparently no one was hurt!

It is located on the southern coast in Victoria, between Melbourne going west to Adelaide. It is on the Great Ocean Road , quite scenic--it will still be a great tourist attraction.

When I was in Melbourne 3 years ago, our tour guide kept joking to us, 'if any of you catch an apostle falling into the sea-on tape-just remember, (Something) Tours has part rights.' Seriously, it's sad to hear this, they are an impressive sight. But that is nature's way.

I was down that way a few years ago -- the Great Ocean Road is one of the most spectacular drives in the world. All that, and wallabies too -- what more could you want?
