Democrats Want More Talks With Bush Before Nominee Announced By Jesse J. Holland Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats say the courtesy calls from President Bush and his top aide, while appreciated, fall far short of the advice and consent consultations they expect before Bush announces a Supreme Court nominee.
Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois got a call Wednesday from White House chief of staff Andrew Card, who is with Bush in Europe for the Group of Eight summit.
Card also has called Democratic Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Charles Schumer of New York and Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, but no names of possible nominees were mentioned, according to the lawmakers' aides.
The Democrats said they want to know more - specifically, whom the president is considering - before Bush sends his first Supreme Court nomination to the Republican-controlled Senate for confirmation.
"To be meaningful, consultation should include who the president is really considering so we can give responsive and useful advice," Kennedy said.
Bush and White House aides have spoken with senators since Friday, when Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced she would retire once her successor is confirmed.
Among the first to get a call from Bush was Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will hold hearings on the nomination.
Well, how very nice for them.
Urgent message for Senators Kennedy, Durbin, Reid and friends:
WE WON. YOU LOST. GET USED TO IT (Then stick your collective heads up a dead bear's bum!)
Graham, Warner, and McCain have all already said that Democratic filibusters on ideological grounds would be grounds for the nuclear option. The Democrats are dead if they really plan to go down this Ted Kennedy/Barbara Boxer course of action. They're just stalling now, because they're trying to figure out a way to filibuster without having the GOP smack them upside the head with the nuclear option.
STFU Murderer!!!
That's what the confirmation process is. They want to add a new (and hidden) layer? Why?
If there is something that they cannot discuss in the open Senate, it's probably not worth hearing in any case.
Let's hear first hand how truly tiny these losers can be, from their own mouths.
Separation of Powers, and all that.
Riiiight. Let get back to you on that...
More talk less action is what they want.
finis
I don't know, they called him "the President." It looks like they've at least accepted he won two elections.
when this gets into hearings the Republicans should all just "reserve their time" when called on, and let the Dems just put on their rants until their time is elapsed.....then Repubs can counter with cool heads and no reason to have to play the "yield" game.
But it says advise and consent not consult.
Bush should do at least as much consultation with the Dims as Clinton did with the GOP.
He did consult with the GOP.....right?????
"Democrats say the courtesy calls from President Bush and his top aide, while appreciated, fall far short of the advice and consent consultations they expect before Bush announces a Supreme Court nominee."
Can you imagine if the Republicans had ever dared make these sort of comments when Clinton was President? The NYT would still be writing editorials.

Oh good gosh almighty...if Bush and his people were on the phones with these DemoTurds 24/7 they'd claim he wasn't doing enough. Here's an idea...you want input on who the president appoints as a Supreme Court Justice?? Win an election that gives you the federal branch control that justifies giving you such say! Stop acting like you're part of some governing coalition Dems. You're not. You're nothing but obstructionist adolescents.
When we want your "useful advice" on what brand of Scotch to get, we'll give you a call. 'Till then, please FOAD.
Qui bono? Are the Dems implying that if Bush sent them a list of nominees it would make them any more likely to vote for approval for any of them? All it would accomplish is to give the smear machine a headstart. Thanks, but no thanks.
