NRSC Orders a Pizza (CEO)

National Republicans are hoping for a delivery from Domino’s Pizza; and they’re willing to wait more than 30 minutes to get it.

State party emailed the complete story to me. Roll Call is suscription only, so I won't post the story.

The Reader's Digest Version of this is that the NRSC is recruiting Domino's CEO David Brandon to run against Stabenow.

Personally, this is a key reason why the NRSC doesn't get a dime from me. A Pizza CEO who is fairly unknown (he was a backup QB, not Jim Harbaugh or Tom Brady) is going to have a tough time against Debbie Stabenow if Stab has the chance to run a faux populist campaign. Rich CEO(and not the founder) vs "working families". This is Michigan, a very populist state where every republican needs to get past that ingrained "Democrats for the workin' man" crap every election. Keith Butler's won a Detroit city council race - extremely tough for a republican. I also know where Keith Butler stands on most issues. I have no idea where Mr. Brandon stands on taxes, life, the 2nd amendment, judges, borders, or anything else. Maybe he's a Tom Monaghan conservative. Maybe not. I don't know.

I'm also getting a little tired at the NRSC saying that just because someone has money, they will be a strong candidate. Brandon was never elected to a major office. His only claim to fame is taking over at Domino's and being backup QB for the Wolverines in the 80's. That and he has money. Maybe he'll surprise me and be a good candidate if he runs, but I'm only 30 minutes and one county away from Ann Arbor and I never heard of the man (unlike the DeVos family who I have met and have seen at many different events) until this year. This is a US Senate Candidate? I'm not a big name in the party, but my county is next door to his and is by far the most GOP county in East Michigan.

I have no problem with a primary, especially a two-way primary. Butler can duke it out with Brandon, Abraham, Zandstra, Baron, or all of the above in the primary, and may the best candidate win. The NRSC should step back and let us Michiganders choose our candidate in the primary. None of this coronation BS.

As for Mr. Brandon, if he wants to run for office, there are plenty of tough seats where his help is needed. Pittsfield Township's(between A2 and Ypsi) state rep district is 50/50, and is held by a democrat. That would be a tough race for him, and a good testing group for him if he wants to run for statewide office. If he's up for a big challenge, he should take on his congressman - John Dingell. He had a minor fight in 94, but hasn't had a major fight in over 20 years.

One last thing. While I have the utmost respect for Tom Monaghan as a Catholic, Domino's Pizza tastes like cardboard. There are a lot of people who will automaticly vote against anything "Domino's".

Oh, brother... not another Pete Coors candidacy. Rev. Butler talks the talk and walks the walk, and he deserves our full support.

The RNC doesn't care about winning the MI Senate seat at all. They just want a rich boy to self finance a campaign to force the DNC spend funds on MI when they could be going to MN, PA, RI or FL next year.

Since David Brandon has never aired his political views before, I suspect he is a squishy RINO type. He'll cave under pressure from the MSM.

In fact should Brandon actually win the primary, expect late breaking news stories in Oct 2006 about questionable business practices at Domino's Pizza. He should stay out of the race if he wants to preserve what little reputation Domino's has.
