2 stolen cars, run over by an SUV as a bouncer, shot at by a patron as a bouncer, shot at a fleeing bg as he tried to get out of my apt. with a DVD player... I know the violent and personal nature of crime. Thank God for Jeb and the Florida Pro-Gunners! The only place I don't carry is in my office, but it's always just a sprint away in my glovebox.

If that were me, I woulda drawn my Smith, said a prayer and opened fire.

Dear kristinn,

When I was growing up, PG was a much nicer place. There were bad sections, but back then, much of the county was still rural, and there were a number of very nice, small, older communities.

When I was a kid, I lived in New Carrollton, and it was a nice place to live. It's gone downhill since I lived there. There are parts of New Carrollton I assiduously avoid.

Yet, home prices are skyrocketing in the county. To their credit, the folks who run the county are trying their hardest to introduce lots of new, upscale housing, which helps the tax base a whole bunch, and is relatively cheap development for the county (If developers build 100 homes on a couple of hundred of acres of the old Fairwood Turf Farm, you create a lot less need for roads, schools, sewers, etc., then if developers build 1000 townhouses, or 2500 garden apartment units.). As much as I disliked him, former County Exec Wayne Curry really pushed for this kind of development, and perhaps in the long-run, the county will recover somewhat as a result.

But between the high taxes, the high crime, the lousy schools, after living there from 1966 to 2000, we just couldn't take it anymore. We moved in 2001 to Anne Arundel. Very happy. I pay the same property taxes for a house worth more than three times as much as what I had in PG. Less crime, less congestion (at least in my part), schools aren't quite as crappy, etc.

Yet folks are pouring into PG.

I had a 1966 Chevy Impala stolen in SE DC back in 1976. Never saw it again. I wish today that I had the PIN so I could type it in CARFAX - just for s**ts and giggles to see if it is still out there.

I can relate to her fear. I was carjacked a year ago and it has had a profound impact on how I behave in public places now. The POS had the drop on me big time, no warning, no chance to do anything but comply with the demands and try to get a description (black).

A totally helpless feeling, standing there wondering if this is how one's life ends. How the survivors of one's family will cope with the loss.

BTW, a CCW wouldn't have helped me one bit unless he was in a position to see me carrying it.

It did not use to be like that. From the late 80's on, PGC has gotten progressively worse. I remember when I came back from Hawaii in 93 - the schools were advertising for teachers - offering 20 grand signing bonus's. I told my wife - hell, that's either hazardous duty pay or combat pay. For the most part, it is a friggin' war zone.

Thugs begetting thugs.

Of course, God said go forth and multiply, so they're just doing God's will.

The professional blacks didn't change the Dem government or the management of the Police force or Sheriff's office nor did they fight for the right to conceal carry or self defense. They qualify for fools of the decade.

Let them reap what they wanted to sow. When they get a brain perhaps they can back some of this down but it is hard once Jack is out of the box.

I live within 10 feet of the Alexandria line.
