While not as tragic an instance as this one, millions of asthma sufferers who were getting amazing relief from an inhaled drug called Serevent were screwed when the manufacturer, Glaxo, pulled the inhalers off the market to (in their words) "save the ozone layer." They replaced it with a dry powder form that has to be sucked forcefully into the lungs, and doesn't have nearly the efficiency and effectiveness of the older aerosol inhalers.
