I'm glad to see her go!
How many innocent babies have died during her term?

The woman has resigned and I fail to see any benefit at all in bashing and trashing her.

"That said, I bet Bush is going to "have to" nominate a woman for her seat. This is not the way it should be, but it's certainly something the Dems are going to jump on if he doesn't."
I don't think so. Reid himself has suggested several non-women as potential candidates. The fact that Reid suggested them means we should reject them instantly, but the fact remains that the Dems are on record as supporting men to take over this seat. Besides, most of this country is opposed to affirmative action; no need to compromise with the Dems on that.

Very cogent analysis by Thomas Sowell. Great post. Last night on Fox, Mark Levin ridiculed Sandra Day O'Connor's record. Dems laud her 'pick and choose' approach, that she seemed willing to rule on a whim.(Constitution changing with fashion, trends.) Mark Levin said that was exactly what was wrong with O'Connor. She wasn't shopping in the supermarket -- impulse buying cheese or melons. This was about the law. How would the average person like going to court and facing a judge who'd decide his case on a whim or the trend of the day, not on law. Mark Levin's new book, Men in Black, is undoubtedly a great read, too.

The only thing wrong with Supreme Court is there are too many Lawyers on it.. A Supreme Court with some plumbers, electricians and carpenters on it... and maybe a Leo or two.. would serve "the PEOPLE" better.. they can hire all the legal whores they want as aides..
If the lawyers have not PROVED they CAN'T handle it.. they've proved nothing..
Constitutiional Law seems to confuse actual lawyers..
Lawyers should be outlawed from federal AND state Supreme Courts..
Being trained to argue BOTH sides of any argument addles their brain..
Since most lawyers have no idea that socialism is Slavery by Government.. and a financial glory hole for lawyers.. Well, at least they are ignorant of the slavery thing..

I don't think Bush should have to nominate a woman, because I don't think it really matters one way or the other. But if the Dems want a man (from among the weak-kneed male RINOs they have been arrogant enough to "suggest"), that's a good reason not to give them one.

Actually as far as I remember there were 3 votes against her - Jesse Helms, Don Nickles and Bob Smith.

Exactly! My sense of it is that he will nominate a woman. I'm wondering if he will be very bold and immediately elevate Janice Rogers Brown from the 9th Circuit right up onto SCOTUS.......or do the following: nominate an excellent, qualified originalist man to fill O'Connor's seat, and then........WHAM......put up J.R. Brown for Chief Justice!!
Everyone who knows G.W. Bush well, always says that he is a shrewd ole Texas poker player! IMO, such a play would be nothing short of sensational - a big home run with the bases loaded!
Thanks for your comment, livius!

I just realized that my response was even more obscure. I was getting dinner ready and talking about high beef prices, and somebody mentioned Kobe beef (which I have never tasted, since it's several hundred dollars a pound). This fed into the not particularly secure brain conduit...

The liberal law school professoriate and the legacy media is already urging President Bush to name a "moderate" Justice O' Connor clone. They want someone who can be depended to vote on them in cases that come before the court. Someone pliable enough will do the job as long as he isn't in the mold of Clarence Thomas or Antonio Scalia. So much rests on the President's pick. And you can expect the Democrats and the liberal special interest groups to put up a brutal no holds barred fight to block a conservative from ascending to the Supreme Court.

put up J.R. Brown for Chief Justice!! That's a great idea. It would sure knock the socks off a lot of folks, but it's definitely within the GWB playbook. (Also, I think she'd be great.)

This kind of sound reasoning in a man is precisely why I read four books on economics by Mr. Sowell right in a row back in 1982, very soon after first hearing his name. I believe that I received the first one automatically from the Conservative Book Club, forgot to return it (so that I wouldn't be billed), but then was very glad to pay for that book, read it, and ordered three more. Since that time, I've been out of the country a lot and had more difficult access to his books (hard to find them in Red China!). Why doesn't President Bush tap Mr. Sowell for a high economic post?
To: CHARLITE
Justice Anthony Kennedy, once touted by some conservatives as "Bork without a beard" but who turned out to have neither the intellect nor the strength of Judge Robert Bork. THIS is what scares me... I say go big or stay home. A real Conservative SCOTUS nominee is W's only reason for being right now.
To: OldFriend
who's bashing her? I'm bashing the liberals.
