Thieves stole family's new hedge

A family in western Norway was hit by an unusual theft at their home in Sædalen, Hordaland County, this week. A newly planted hedge in their front yard was rudely uprooted and carted away. "After the initial shock, I just felt very sad," Kristin Molvik Botnmark told newspaper Bergens Tidende on Tuesday.

Her husband, Børre Botnmark, has a few theories on the disappearance of the 32 plants that made up their new hedge.

"It may be a theft ordered by someone wanting a new hedge," he said. "Or it could be a band of thieves who drive around and offer cheap gardening help, and who offer greenery for people's gardens.

"Someone clearly is trying to profit on this."

The hedge was last seen at 2pm on Thursday, when the Botnmark family went away for the weekend. They frankly didn't notice whether their newly planted hedge was still in place when they got home Sunday night.

But on Monday morning, the hedge was gone. Whoever stole it, "must have struck during the night, otherwise our neighbours would have noticed something," Børre Botnmark said.

"They must have had a trailer or a truck to cart all the plants away in," Botnmark added. He told Bergens Tidende that his family is now considering setting up a fence instead of another hedge.

Here in Florida, thieves target Sago Palms. Very lucrative, as they are popular and expensive........

ROGER THE SHRUBBER: Are you saying 'ni' to that old woman?

ARTHUR: Erm,... yes.

ROGER: Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say 'ni' at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.

ARTHUR: Did you say 'shrubberies'?

ROGER: Yes. Shrubberies are my trade. I am a shrubber. My name is 'Roger the Shrubber'. I arrange, design, and sell shrubberies.

What is it with Norwegian thieves? Anybody remember this post from a few months ago?

Determined thieves steal Norwegian family's in-ground swimming pool?
