I think this is nonsense. I knew a woman who was a moderate Muslim. She was a sweet, daffy, absent-minded woman who believed it was her sacred duty to be a good mother, not drink any alcohol, always remember which way was East, and always make sure her purse matched her shoes. I am quite confident that she was equally devout and harmless.

The so-called "moderate" muslims are muslims only in name - were they to sincerely follow the tenets of Islam they would no longer remain moderate. Islam is the only religion where the more religious a person becomes, the more he would tend towards violence & extremism - witness the Taleban (literally "islamic students") of Afghanistan.
Women have no standing/power as Muslims. That woman you knew could well have been kindly, etc., but her male relatives could have been something else. In a very real sense, it's comparable to Catholics espousing abortion. Various Cardinals during the recent Presidential campaign called for John Kerry's excommunication/or denial of the Sachrament of the Eucharist because of his publicly stated position. (How would the world react if the Pope suddenly talked about returning to the days of the Spanish Inquisition or suggested chopping off the heads of non-Catholics? You can bet your bottom dollar the Vatican wouldn't receive the 'we need to understand' nonsense Islam and Muslims get.) Religion and certainly Catholicism isn't a buffet where you pick and choose what to believe. You eat the whole enchilada.

You cannot say Islam is kind by looking at the behavior of the submited and nonhalf of the muslim world. Did she have a choice under islam?No death penalty.
