LAKE HAVASU, Ariz. - A Quartz Hill man died in a boating accident Saturday at Lake Havasu when the lake craft he was riding in hit another craft head-on. The accident took place shortly after 1:15 a.m. near the main channel of the lake, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Department.

While the lake, a popular resort on the northwest portion of Arizona, had had a few accidents over the weekend, the time the accident took place was odd, a department spokeswoman said.

"This is not a normal boating time," spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

"I have not been informed as to what caused the collision," she added.

The collision took place about 150 yards offshore when a southbound 1979 Tahiti carrying three people, including Guy Lane Sutterfield, 41, of Quartz Hill and a 42-year-old woman, collided with a northbound 2001 Blue Water with 12 people on board, according to the Sheriff's Department's Web site.

Sutterfield died at the scene, Carter said, while the woman was airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

The operator of the boat, who was not identified, was taken to Lake Havasu City Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released, according to the Web site.

The dozen people riding in the Blue Water also were taken to the medical center.

Carter said the accident remains under investigation

I guess that they never really figured out what those red/green lights on the bow of the boat were for.

What is odd about a 1:15 am boating accident? On Lake Erie, that's probably prime time. Throw in a few dozens beers first.

Wonder if she has ever heard of 'alcohol'.
