HUMMM, interesting web sit. All of their advertizers were promoting instant passports. Now just exactly how is THAT done.

This is a massive abuse of the Patriot Act, not to mention being ferociously anti-male.

You have to appreciate the way the socialist state works. First, an ongoing war against family. Next, the creation of laws that make divorce easy, along with the expansion of pornography and propaganda against men and their role as fathers.

And, gee, wouldn't you know? After the state has destroyed a valuable institution, the next step is to put dear old dad on the terrorist watch list for failure to pay.

You are being completely misleading. They check the database for deadbeat parents before issuing a passport to prevent them from fleeing. From your source:

After the hearing Moss told United Press International that the department already checked all passport applicants against a database that contained the names of nearly 50,000 fugitives, and 3 million deadbeat parents who owed child support...."It's not that (people in the database or on the terrorist watchlist) automatically won't get a passport," said Moss, "they're just people we want to take a closer look at." He pointed out that those who owed child support were ineligible to be issued a passport until they had paid or in some states until they had made arrangements to do so. "We don't want to issue a passport to anyone who is going to use it to flee the jurisdiction, or skip out on child support they owe," he said.

Not a thing, pretty obviously. Do we have any idea whether this is accurate? Putting 3 million Americans on a watch list...hmmm

Statistics show that most deadbeat dads have never married the mothers of their children (not necessarily their fault), most do not have jobs or jobs that pay enough for them to send payments....and still Social Services hounds them, jails them, spends billions a year to squeeze money from these "turnips" as they are known in the industry.

So perhaps, these fellows fit some sort of desperation profile of those who might turn to crime in order to get money. Many are not very moral people, not very loyal, are irresponsible by definition. Could they be paid to lug bombs around? Some could.

Is there any way to find out if a particular name is on that list prior to applying for a passport?

I think there is no tie per se. I think that it has to do with all of these agencies now sharing the info in their various computer databases.

They are not on the terrorist watchlist but they are in a massive federal database with run-of-the-mill criminals as well as suspected terrorists.

"Deadbeats" are tracked by the feds because it is so easy to move across state lines. If someone starts work using their social, conceivably the state can start garnishing wages. It's merely a locator, not putting them on a criminal par with suspected terrorists.

I can see how the confusion occurred but the title is highly misleading.

Gee, my sister's ex-Iranian husband owes $45,000.

Do you think if she gets them going that he might be on the terrorist watch list as well? DUHHHHHHH

There's a lot of disgruntled people in this country.

People who's only recourse is to take it under ground.

I think dads should support their children and so should moms.

Does this list include dead beat moms.

I agree that divorce is way to easy.

It looks as though individual freedoms are being eroded.

I remember when the government said that RICO laws would only be a tool to help put away Mafia types.

Now many law enforcement offices and government types use RICO to go after individual citizens.

It looks as though the Patriot act is going down the same road.

It's time to repeal both the RICO laws and the Patriot act.

Did anybody actually read the article? The deadbeats, moms and dads, are already on a no passport list. Your headline is not the original and it is misleading.

It sounds to me that the list is being integrated as one source and to avoid error.....so the "terror list" would actually be a list of individuals who have warrants, are avoiding court judgements in paychild child support and those individuals who are potential terrorists.

I see nothing wrong with this...apprehending criminal suspects before they flee the country is a positive thing and one that will reduce costs of extradition and location.

Not allowing deadbeat parents to get passports is another positive gesture, so the responsibiity of their children will not be borne on the tax paying public.

And I see one integrated database as a positive opposed to having the officer at customs have to access the NCIC, individual state databases AND a terror list.

I don't see this as an extension of the patriot act but as streamlining bureaucracy which saves man hours and costs, therefore affording more financial resources and manpower to ease congested airports, customs lines and protect the homeland security.

There is nothing about arrest or violation of personal rights in this. All it reads is that persons who owe child support can't get a passport and if they have one, then it obviously wasn't obtained legally.

The simple solution? Abide by laws. Pay your child support, don't do anything that will result in a criminal warrant and don't be involved in terrorism.

What is TRULY AMAZING is there are THREE MILLION fathers (or rather it should read "parents" since the author chooses to define "dead beat parents" as "fathers") who don't care about their children and don't accept responsibility for their actions.

Now, THAT is the real issue.......and the one that people with compassion and values should be focusing upon.
