Thank you for posting this article. I have searched for a alternative to my Norton program. The free program is a great way to try a new program with out the financial output.

wow.
Tks for the post.
I can swear by firefox. It routs competition totally.
Tks for the DLL cleaner advice as well.
Here are some categories that might wanna include.
Open Source Statistical software: R
By far the best around. Freeware cousin of S. Programs like a dream. Graphics abilities are just phenomenal. Its library of functions swells by the week. Open source DB s/w: mySQL tops the charts hands down. Plus the fact that you can integrate it with PERL (another open source wonder here is ActivPERL) and you have a perfect platform to launch bots into cyberspace on data collecting missions. To grad students like me who're long on ideas and short on data, its like a dream come true. Cheers.

Cute, a bunch of these aren't even necessary on non-Microsoft operating systems.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree with item #3 (Best Anti-Spyware). Only yesterday, I ran a thorough scan with the Microsoft program. It showed no spyware. Then I ran Spybot Search & Destroy and it found one item, the irritating "Instant Access" spyware. Then, I ran Ad-Aware SE 1.05, and it found 6 items missed by the other two programs! All were updated just prior to using them. There is no single anti-spyware that is effective, but a combination is required.
