A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Inadequate Treatment

Read:
Jeremiah 6:10-19

They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, saying, "Peace, peace!" when there is no peace. —Jeremiah 6:14

Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 7-10

cover A sprained ankle, so common during summer activities, can cause lingering problems if not properly treated. Minor sprains respond well to RICE: rest, ice, compression, and elevation. But people who ignore a serious sprain and keep going in spite of the pain run the risk of a greater injury.

A podiatric surgeon says we often get used to sprains and put up with them, but "even minor sprains should be rehabilitated so they don't happen again." And, of course, a major injury always requires proper treatment.

When Jeremiah spoke the Lord's message against the corrupt spiritual leaders of Judah, he said: "They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, saying, 'Peace, peace!' when there is no peace" (Jeremiah 6:14). He repeated the accusation of inadequate treatment for serious spiritual injury in 8:11, then asked, "Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there . . . for the health of the daughter of my people?" (v.22).

Jeremiah's searching question inspired an old spiritual that proclaims the message of hope and forgiveness we still need today: "There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole; there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul."

That balm is the healing power of Jesus for our deep wound of sin. Have you applied His balm? —David McCasland

Sometimes I feel discouraged, and think my work's in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit revives my soul again.
There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul. —Trad.

The Great Physician always has the right remedy.

Well, Billie, I was truly "seeing red " this afternoon -- one of these:

Catching up on front yard flower beds chores this morning, I captured several volunteer zinnia plants that had strayed to odd places, and tidied the border grasses -- and then placed the sprinkler to water same.

Its circular spray was doing a fantastic job, and proved positvely irresistable to a cardinal similar to the picture above!

While in the back yard there is the bird bath and now 3 on-the-ground-bowls for all the birds and squirrels and occasional cat or dog, they often are quite crowded.
Different species declare truces, ignoring the others "in use," and drink and/or splash away.

From the computer room on the front side, I heard the distinctive happy song of a cardinal, though, and looking out, saw a sole female, hopping back and forth on the front landing brick edge, catching the spray each time it came around!
She ruffled her feathers and bathed over and over - flew to the adjacent holly hedge briefly, and then returned again and again, for at least 20 minutes, singing her heart out!

It was like watching a small child squealing, playing in a sprinkler --
all God's creatures delight in that on a lovely June day --

Was poised Tuesday with ammo to celebrate the First Full Day of Summer here, and it didn't happen!

We're having another rather nice moderate one, like last year's --
adequate rainfall, and almost no days exceeding 90 degrees - nights still in the 60's - -
I much prefer it to shoveling snow and ice!!

Hello Dolly, thank you for the compliment on the pledge. :)

I don't think I know *anyone* who works in the yard as much as you do! No rest with such a huge yard, is there?

Company left this morning - it's been a long week. :)

It's Friday and "The Boys" are buggin' me to use the car to go cruisin' tonight. Stay tuned - might be a Kodak Moment. :)
