FReepers from the DC Chapter conducted a FReep of Senator Richard Durbin at a Democrat fundraiser on June 21. DNC Chair Howard Dean, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada were among those in attendance in addition to Senate Minority Assistant Leader Durbin of Illinois.

The honor roll of those in attendance as shown on below photo (L-R): BufordP, Jimmy Valentine's brother, 3-D Joy, kristinn, and (off-camera, taking the photo) BillF.
We set up our protest on the sidewalk about 15 feet away from the entrance door where the Dems had to wait in line to get in. Most of the Dem officials went into another door around the corner from our location.
The theme of the DNC fundraiser was "Paint the Nation Blue" and the people waiting in line certainly seemed blue. Of course, they may have been blue because of our presence. Possibly it was kristinn telling them to turn their backs on Durbin or maybe it was BufordP telling them "If you think American troops are Nazis, you can go to the front of the line."
I didn't get many photos as I was holding a sign most of time.

| Most of the Dems were quite subdued in the face of our shouts about Durbin, but there were a few exceptions. One of the Dems walking by shouted "shame on you" to each of us. We responded in similar fashion. I said "We're ashamed of Durbin. You should be ashamed of Durbin.". SOUND FILE (54 sec, 582 Kb): Peace sign guy (photo right) continues by saying "shame on you," pointing to Jimmy Valentine's brother, and falsely claiming that JVB was making fun of gays because JVB simply repeated the guy's words in a mocking tone. It was unclear to me if the guy was gay or simply a metrosexual like Howard Dean once confessed that he is, not that I cared.

SOUND FILE (64 sec, 697 Kb): BufordP had asked the Dems if any were White Christians, but the sound file starts with Buford than telling them not to tell Howard (Dean). kristinn than tells them that they lost the White House, the House, the Senate, various Governors' and state legislative elections because of their hostility to religious people. I tried to cheer the Dems up by pointing out that "they still have the West Wing TV show," but that didn't seem to lift up their mood.
We were videotaped by a news camera, but we don't know whose camera it was. It might have been C-Span, but we don't know if they televised any footage of us.
SOUND FILE (149 sec, 1.6 MB): Jimmy Valentine's brother responds as a Dem walking by tells us to "go f*** yourself." Then BufordP and kristinn variously ask that the Dems raise a glass for the troops in Guantanamo. kristinn suggests that Durbin should do the toast. Jimmy Valentine's brother shouts about our troops "they're your sons and daughters, how could you believe that they're Nazis?"

| Watching the event on C-Span delayed broadcast after the FReep, Durbin did toast the troops, albeit without mentioning Guantanamo. Interestingly, he said that the troops are "our sons and daughters." Now this is a common enough phrase that it may be coincidental that Durbin pretty much followed the suggestions of the FReepers in the above sound file. On the other hand, Durbin may have had an aide listening to us and tailored his remarks accordingly. We'll never know. SOUND FILE (77 sec, 830 Kb): Democrat Congresswoman Diane Watson from California came over to talk with us. She took exception at BufordP's sign by saying that she visited GITMO and the prisoners weren't getting lemon chicken and didn't have prayer rugs, but that initial part happened before the recorder was running. In the recorded part, she is telling us that the Hague passed some resolution condemning the U.S., that we should learn the facts, and that the prisoners at GITMO need to have due process. Congresswoman Watson is a nice woman, but seriously misguided and it's hard to believe that she is a member of Congress. kristinn introduced himself to her and started talking. |

SOUND FILE (82 sec, 885 Kb): kristinn explains to the Congresswoman why they had a ceremonial turkey when Bush went to Baghdad. This was followed by mini-debate joined by 3D-Joy and BufordP. The Congresswoman denies that the GITMO prisoners get lemon chicken, but then seems to say that they get a "little chicken, a little rice." When she says everyone deserves due process, BufordP asks her whether you arrest or shoot an armed enemy on a battlefield. She says "you don't shoot 'em," which is followed by laughter of Jimmy Valentine's brother.
When the Dems were finished going in the doors, we happened to walk by the door where the upper tier Dems were supposed to enter. When we were across the street from that VIP door, a big black SUV pulled up and discharged passengers, one of whom was thought to be Nancy Pelosi. Jimmy Valentine's brother yelled "there goes a grotesque mistake," quoting from her recent statement about the Iraq War. It was unclear if anyone heard it as the VIPs rushed in the door.
Most of us then moved to an undisclosed location for food and drink.
On another front, our troops that have made great sacrifices for us in Iraq and Afghanistan are also being subject to public attack. They could use some help from you. Specifically, the America-hating traitors of Code Pink are demonstrating every Friday night outside Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
FReepers have been countering them, but we need reinforcements.
Walter Reed patients, including amputees, have told us that it is important for the new hospital admissions that we FReepers are there. One amputee told me that his concern was guys coming into the hospital with missing limbs or other serious injuries. He didn't want them to look out their bus/ambulance windows and see only the Pinkos and think that they represent America.

Injured Walter Reed patients, including amputees, have repeatedly told us how important it is for us to be there to counter Code Pink.
If we can sufficiently outnumber the leftists often enough, embarrassment may cause the leftists to stop these outrageous morale-damaging ("Maimed for a lie" is one of their signs) demonstrations at the hospital. Six of our FReepers traveled more than 60 miles from home to FReep last Friday night. What about you? Can you help?

Thanks for the kind words.
We are patriots, but the heroes are those in our military, law enforcement, and fire/rescue, those who go into harm's way for their country or community. Many of them, including our troops at GITMO, are risking death and serious injury.
And that's why Durbin's slur on the brave troops guarding the terrorists, which provided our enemies a propaganda coup, demands a strong response.
Sometimes I have trouble being a Republican ie Bush pandering to Illegals, but mixing with Democrats has always made me itch.

The Democrats have been pedalling this moral confusion and sadly some deranged will buy it. It's treasonous to a democracy, especially during a time of war.
I've made up my mind to contribute $$$ to Dick Durban's opponent in his next election, just like I did with Tommy Daschle's opponent John Thune.
