Forget about temporary status for undocumented immigrants, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said - let them stay here permanently and legally.
While it isn't the first time Bloomberg has urged leniency for about 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, he issued his strongest call yet recently.
"Give them some kind of permanent green card," he said at a meeting at the Carib News, a Manhattan weekly newspaper serving the Caribbean-American community.
In an article in the paper's June 21 edition, Bloomberg told the gathering of community leaders he wouldn't go as far as granting citizenship, but called for illegal immigrants to be granted immunity from deportation.

And I say, "crap".
Great, let's meet them at the border and give them all a one way ticket to New York. Let the New Yorkers pay for their education, healthcare, and provide other services to them. Be sure to warn them though that if they leave NYC they'll be picked up and deported.
I head an intersting take on the love our higher gvt officials have with the illegals...they keep the US labor market competitive around the world market place. With the disaster of US trade deficits and NAFTA and the Asian treaties on trade, the illegals are our last wage brake...think about it.
Behold Bloomberg: one of the "business Republicans" who is destroying our country.
This situation may be hopeless if we have to fight powerful Republicans instead of just the Teddy Kennedies of the world. Depressing.
"Let the New Yorkers pay for their education, healthcare, and provide other services to them."
You may have a point here. Maybe the best answer under the circumstances is to let the cities and states that are in love with illegal aliens have all of them that they want. Don't reimburse them a dime for education and health care expenses, though.
Can they all stay at his house?
Christianity is about getting to heaven. Perhaps we have misplaced our priorities. I know it hurts, but politicians of ANY stripe are not going to do what is right.
Much easier to ingratiate oneself with lawlessness than to fight it.
"Don't reimburse them a dime for education and health care expenses, though."
Realistically, how would that work? Put "illegal" students in separate school classes and don't hire a teacher for them? Let an injured "illegal" child die in the hospital parking lot? How could make sure no federal money was used? I just don't see how it could practically be done.
Bloomies people called me for support, I said no.
I will likely vote for the dem or the conservative party next election.(I held my nose last time)
Then why bother 'documenting' anyone?
Judeo-Christianity has law written in Stone... 10 Commandments
when we dont live under this law ..our souls are lost
The USA has law written in stone also...The Constitution
US citizens still need to hold their government responsible
and make them live within the restraints the founders knew
they had to..lest the Republic is lost..
The USA is being invaded and all the politicans can think
is how they can make it benefit themselves and keep them
in power..
imo
If he doesn't make a drastic course correction very soon, the Bush legacy will be a sad one indeed.
What do you reckon the penalty would be if some folks got onto his mansion grounds and decided they wanted to stay there for a few months? Call them undocumented campers...
Trying to sneak across US borders is a lot of trouble and tends to tire these poor people out. If you and your friends would treat them more humanely, by giving them a week or two of fine wine, dining and entertainment, they'd be refreshed when they arrive and ready for work at your tax-evading wage-busting corporate sponsors.
No need to make them citizens, as arrogant and UNelected Federal Judges have enacted their own laws that give them every right without the burden of that thing called allegiance.
At least hes being honest. Bush would tell us that they are "temporary guest workers" even though most of them would never leave.
