Cruise "Tried To Convert Johansson"
Internet Movie Database ^ | 6-21-05

Posted on 06/21/2005 7:37:16 PM PDT by Paul Atreides

Scarlett Johansson pulled out of appearing in the second Mission: Impossible sequel after Tom Cruise tried to convert her to scientology, according to reports. Cruise, who produces the action adventures, met with Johansson ahead of casting for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 3 and took her to one of the controversial religion's headquarters, claims Radarmagazine.Com. A source tells the website, "After two hours of proselytizing, Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ingénue politely excused herself." Officially Johansson quit the film because of scheduling conflicts after the film was delayed so Cruise could make War Of The Worlds.

I think we are witnessing a descent into madness.

I would happily try to do many things with Miss Johansson, but "convert" isn't one of them. : )

My respect for Scarlett is elevated substantially.

Odd. I thought Scientologists valued money above all else. If so, they're doing a piss poor job of protecting their meal ticket by allowing him to publicly exhibit the true nature of the Scientology movement.

She was great in the 'Horse Whisperer'. She's the kind of girl that America wouldn't mind their daughters hanging out with. Good kid, now growing up and keeping a level perspective.

It's just soooo creepy. I guess Katie jumped happily through that looking glass... First, the mandatory 'counseling' booths (or whatever they're called) at his movie shoots, now the attempts to 'convert' a co-star. What's next? At least Scarlett had the good sense to bolt. Bolt from this sci-fi turned into self-help now calling itself religion. Just think, he took her to the headquarters prior to casting. Was she aware of where they were going? Was she told why? Soooo creeeeepy.

For some reason, the scene described reminds me of something out of Rosemary's Baby.

I certainly wouldn't have sat there for two hours, while he ranted about a kooky cult.

Sort of...

Leftist hate group MoveOn.org announced last week that it has enlisted the help of the Hollywood elite in its partisan campaign to smear the president and stigmatize America’s War on Terror. According to a Time magazine story (“I’m Rob Reiner, and I Approve This Ad”), such Hollywood powerhouses as Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Errol Morris, Rob Reiner, “West Wing” creator Aaron Sorkin, Ed Asner, Danny Glover, Al Franken, the ubiquitous Kevin Bacon, Margaret Cho, Woody Harrelson, Scarlett Johansson, Alicia Silverstone and musician Moby have agreed to write, direct and star in TV ads for MoveOnPAC, the Political Action Committee of MoveOn.org.
