The Schindlers sunk themselves into bankruptcy paying for Terri's rehab before the settlement - while Michael didn't kick in a dime. After the settlement Michael decided Terri no longer deserved rehab and witheld all of it. He took charge of all the rehab money and wouldn't use it as intended. When the Schindlers challenged him, he used the rehab money for the death merchant lawyers and doctors.

That's my take exactly. If the Schindlers were making any demands on the settlement money, it was for the $$ to go towards Terri's care and rehab if possible. Clearly that was not happening, but it was easy for MS to claim they only wanted the $$. His chickens will someday come home to roost.
