Any chaplain on duty with the US military is an official representative of their denomination. Their ongoing appointment is first controlled by their denomination. Once they cease performing in religious matters according to the distinctives of that denomination, then their appointment can be yanked by their denomination. At that point, the military is helpless to continue them as a chaplain.
Given the current law and regulation, they could NOT be legally ordered in our military to violate their religious beliefs.
