Certainly. I didn't hear that modern Christians were suing (let alone threatening to kill) Martin Scorcese for defamation after "The Last Temptation of Christ" or other attacks on those who criticize Christianity or Christians. Nobody heard of rampaging buddists after Taleban destroyed ancient Buddah statues in Afghanistan. Islam should not be given a special protected from criticism status.
Special protection, no. But I think that blasphemy is a serious offense and a civilized society should offer protection against it to all religious. Just because we hold to the barbaric notion that any public insult is "freedom of speech" doesn't mean the Muslim should.
