If a giant magnitude 9 earthquake strikes someday along the coast of the Pacific Northwest...

Then the Hollywood Liberals in the Malibu Colony and the Peoples Republic of Santa Monica might finally have something 'real' to whine about.

"The problem is that it would take out San Diego too...and since I live there, I would consider that to be a tad problematic"

Naah, the road leading down to the canyon will make a nice boat-launch ramp !

Can't you just suck it up and take one for the team? ;)

All of my family live at the end of the dirt roads, on tall mountains. We have boats too.

Rednecks safe.

Thing is the Indian Ocean Tsunami propagated AROUND the tip of Sri Lanka and did a lot of damage on the side facing AWAY from the quake, so the propagation probably will be re-examined.

Also there are a couple of faults directly under Puget Sound that can generate a 10 foot+ tsunami WITHIN the Sound, with the added bonus that they'd hit Seattle instantaneously with effectively no warning.

If a giant magnitude 9 earthquake strikes someday along the coast of the Pacific Northwest, or if, against all odds, an errant asteroid plunges into the ocean many miles off California, a monstrous tsunami could drown low- lying lands all up and down the continent's western edge

But what if my aunt had b*lls?

Could have been worded better.

It's WHEN a Magntiude 9 quake strikes along the Pacific Northwest. It's just a matter of time. And it may not be that long.

It would be a really long steady surge, not one high breaking wave. I saw a video taken in Banda Aceh from the second floor of a rich folks' house on a hill, where a wedding had been in progess when the recent tidal wave there hit. There was about a 10-15 knot current shoving a 50' surge of water all through the city - it looked like the surge was heading inland for a distance of several miles.

I would miss San Diego but if Seattle goes to it might be worth it

Yes, one of the faults runs practically right under my desk at work. But a 10 foot tsunami wouldn't worry me too much unless I lived right on the waterfront; most of Seattle's residential areas are well above sea level. I'd be more concerned about the earthquake itself.

Dear God, please leave Morro Bay, Pismo and San Diego.

I'm at the top of Cajon pass. Am I safe?
