7:00 pm to 7:30 pmAnd HERE is the "academic" version of throwing such a childish tantrum, from an e-mail circulated to all the SMC faculty:
A handful of leftist SMC faculty radicals demonstrate their tolerance for intellectual diversity.
Current plans are for them to stamp their little feet, hold their breath until their faces turn blue, and then go pout in the corner.

Subject: Schwarzenegger and Commencement
Greetings Colleagues. I apologize in advance to those faculty members who prefer not to be contacted regarding Schwarzenegger's visit. Unfortunately, the only distribution list we have is FACULTY_ALL. (Note to POSTMASTER: Perhaps you could consider a "CRITICAL_THINKING_FACULTY_ALL" distribution list to satisfy those opposed to the critical exchange of ideas.)
It seems to me that as faculty members we have a particular obligation to our profession, our institution, our community, our students, and to ourselves to not bow down nor remain silent in the face of such an enormous contradiction to our educational mission as Mr. Schwarzenegger's appearance represents.
In fact, I firmly believe it to be an extremely egregious act of disrespect to our graduating students and their families, to passively accept Mr. Schwarzenegger's visit, his policies, and his actions.
Thus, precisely because of the respect we have for the hard work put forth by our graduates and their families, we are ethically and professionally mandated to take an active stand.
Now, more practically: The impact of the stand we take will be judged on the basis of numbers and unity. We all know that the greater Los Angeles (in fact, California) community opposed to Mr. Schwarzenegger's policies will be in the area on Tuesday. Thus, it seems we have a couple of options:
Option 1) join the forces outside the ceremony (I would strongly suggest that we dress in our academic regalia) or
Option 2) participate as faculty on stage (dressed in our academic regalia) until Mr. Schwarzenegger takes the podium at which time we all leave the stage and return when he has finished his address. (Option 2 has the appeal of demonstrating our commitment and respect for our students while also demonstrating our unwillingness to share a stage with Mr. Schwarzenegger.)
Ideally, we would have a critical mass doing both actions. However, if we have small numbers (because many faculty have chosen not to participate at all) and we are split among the two actions, the impact is lost.
Which option do you prefer? The larger the numbers, the more impact our stand will have on our graduates and their families (and perhaps even the "outside world" through the media).
Let's make a decision and make it soon. If you have other options/ideas, share them now. We have less than a week.
Sincerely,

Naturally, that SHOULD have been:

How about some advice here. I have just been chosen the teacher union chairman for my school. I didn't want the job, but felt that with an inexperienced staff of young teachers I should take it. I am 100% behind Arnie but need to report faithfully to the teachers. Any ideas besides quitting?
Option 1)Oh, yes!join the forces outside the ceremony
(I would strongly suggest that we dress in our academic regalia)
PLEASE do!!!Your "academic regalia" will fit in SO perfectly with the elevated level of discourse that is exhibited at SO MANY "anti-Arnold" events...
...like THIS one, from answerla.org/pic/05-05-21-PershingSq:I will post MORE "elevated discourse from A.N.S.W.E.R." photographs...
answerla.org/pic/05-05-21-PershingSq/pinata.jpg
...as soon as la.indymedia.org is back online.
Any ideas besides quitting?Let not your heart be troubled. :o)
There are PLENTY of good conservative teachers out there -- even in L.A.!You have FReep-mail: CALL ME, and I will introduce you to them. :o)
ON the ANSWER page it says they'll protest at Pico and 17th street, not 20th.
Are there going to be two anti-Arnold groups? There seems to be a discrepancy.
I can understand why.
Are there going to be two anti-Arnold groups?Bingo!
There will be TWO anti-Arnold groups -- side-by-side on Pico! This is going to be a DISASTER -- for them. :o)
Bad for getting their message out clearly to the MEDIA...But, their disarray will be GREAT for us. :o)
Bad for MORALE, as their people will be "dazed and confused..."
Bad for any future relationship with SMC, whose graduation they are disrupting...
Wish I could be there, but I'll be in the greater (and I use that term loosely) New York City area for work. Kick some commie butt!
What the heck! Tuesday is fight night anyway, so I might as well get my fair share of abuse, too.
Won't be there by 4:00, but should be there before the end.
I guess there must be some disagreements between the two anti-Arnold groups, or they probably would have united.
That's good.
Cross-country ping. Good luck!
or one possible alternative might be,
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their GIRLY MEN!"
Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.
I'm a Veitnam vet and I remember thinking, "So this is how those *#@%#*%'s, like Kerry started the anti-war crap that got some of our guys killed. Obviously, I wasn't stateside when I was in Nam so I have a gap in American current events for that time period. I voiced my outrage at the email being sent using tax-payer funded SMC campus e-mail, which is dangerous to do in that liberal place, and may be one of the reasons I'm no longer there.
That's one reason I participated in this protest in San Diego in front of the Gay & Lesbian Center. While there are valid victims of domestic violence, it is also one gigantic gender feminist scam.
I was reading the other day that the budget for the veterans administrations for 2005 is not going to be raised, yet the gender feminists are powerful enough that the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is asking for billions more for the coming years. Billions for feminist programs like VAWA (with increases), and our vets gets the leftovers.
Women are less than 3% of combat deaths and injuries and they get vets benefits just like men as they should. Men are at least 15% of domestic violence victims (conservatively speaking/probably more) and they get virtually nothing thanks to the man-hating, gender feminist domestic violence industry. Sadly, two Republican Senators, Specter (R?) (Pennsylvania), and Hatch (R?) (Utah), signed on with Biden (D) (Delaware), the author, to bring this abomination (VAWA) before congress again.
My protest at Santa Monica College will be in opposition to the man-hating gender feminist bigots (femi-supremacists) who hate all men, and look at all men as 2nd class citizens. Masculinity is an afront to these femi-commie-crats. No wonder they hate Arnold so much.
We THOUGHT we would be living in La La Land again by now, but looks like it will be at least July. I can't wait to join the Freepers out there again. It was a blast FREEPING Gray Davis in 2002.
Positively. Arnold must be the first and only Republican she voted for. Although, maybe she didn't vote for him. Who knows.
According to the Constitution, a person has to be qualified to be President in order to be Vice President, so Arnold is out.
