'In the name of Jesus' worked
10/06/2005 22:35 - (SA) Alet Rademeyer Pretoria - Carol Dutton called on the name of Jesus when she was attacked by two men wielding screwdrivers - and the men left her alone and suddenly started using the weapons on each other. Dutton was attacked on Thursday during one of her regular walks in Constantia Park, Pretoria east, by two men armed with screwdrivers. She had seen them earlier in a car and then they approached her with long screwdrivers in their hands while she was out on her walk. She shouted at them to leave her alone, but they stabbed her with the screwdrivers against her head and arm. "They intended to abduct and then rape me - I'm positive of that," she told Beeld. "Today, women feel they are constantly prone to attacks. "But, we give up too easily. We have to leave our homes and repossess our own power. "I shouted at them to 'Let me go, in the name of Jesus', and begged them them not to hurt me. Stabbed at each other "I don't think they understood what I was saying, but it was clear they understood the Jesus name." According to Dutton, the two attackers then started hitting each other, stabbed at one another with the screwdrivers, and then took to their heels. Dutton went to a nearby house for help, and one of the women there said she had just seen a miracle happen in front of her very eyes. Dutton said: "The miracle is that God Himself was in our street. "He listened to my call for help. Being treated with antiretroviral "The police and paramedics arrived in no time, but all this goes to show that the community has the ability to do something about the conditions under which we live." One of the attackers bit Dutton on the finger while she was struggling with them and she is being treated with antiretroviral drugs. "We are the victims of our community and the only hope we have is to get on to our feet and grab what really belongs to us," said Dutton. She warned other residents of the area to be careful when they went for walks, but said she was not afraid after the incident.
