Nebraska Democrat Leader Won't Apologize for Racial Slur Against Latino Leader

OMAHA, Neb. -- A Nebraska Democrat is under fire. Barry Rubin is executive director of the state party and is accused of using a racial slur.

Rubin used a Spanish phrase meaning "Uncle Tom" when he wrote about Douglas County Election Commissioner Carlos Castillo in a blog on the Nebraska Democrats Web site. The comment has been removed from the site, but the war of words is not over.

"I just kind of stumbled upon it," Castillo said. "(It) was on their Web site last night."

Castillo, a Republican, said he was perusing the Democrats' site when he noticed a comment about himself written by Rubin. The comment was about Castillo's resignation announcement earlier this week. Rubin called Castillo a "Tio Tomas," or Uncle Tom in Spanish.

"I think it's unacceptable. I don't think it's appropriate to be calling racial slurs," Castillo said. "I mean, Barry Rubin doesn't know anything about me. He doesn't know anything about my family. My family has lived in Nebraska longer than Barry Rubin has lived in Nebraska, and I think it's inappropriate."

Uncle Tom is a term that often refers to someone selling out their race. Castillo calls it an insult.

"We can have disagreements over issues and decisions I made. That's all fair game. But I don't think ethnicity, heritage, race, religion -- I don't think those things are fair game," Castillo said.

Rubin said the posting was an internal blog, and was not intended as a racial slur. Rubin said he doesn't believe it was a slur.

When KETV NewsWatch 7's Tom Elser checked the Web site, the Tio Tomas comment was accessible to anyone.

Castillo wants Rubin to resign.

"If anyone in my party did that, I'd ask them to quit, and I think it's fair to do the same. Like I said, I hope his party leadership does the same thing," Castillo said.

What can we do about this guy?!?! Does anyone know how we can get national heat for this guy to resign for his childish actions?

Being a Democrat means never having to say you're sorry. Robert Byrd can use the N word on national TV with impunity. Do you think an insignificant racial slur will hurt this guy? Don't be naive.

Dear Mr. Rubin,

I believe the term you are looking for is 'pendejo'.

Respectfully,

Wow. Democrat Plantation Politics is even thriving on the Northern Plains. Just like with Mr.Vermont.

It saves energy, though. In Illinois, nobody has to ask Barak Obama for his opinion. Dick Durbin has already given it to us.

I'm afraid the MSM definition of "racist" excludes Democrats.

I believe the term he's looking for is "Pardon me, I am truly sorry for being an ass"

Don't stand on one foot waiting for it, though

Since this thread is so alliterative, has Osama Obama ever been in Omaha?
