The Westchester District Attorney is choosing between a tough campaign for the job of State Attorney General and a dramatic, perhaps kamikaze race for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat, with a Fox News gig as the consolation prize."

I like her, but good grief, she's got a thing for cosmetics.

I would love to see Pirro run for the Attorney General's office. I would think that she would be a great voice for New York Republicans in Albany during what is likely to be a Spitzer administration. I think it would set her up nicely for either a Senate or Gubernatorial run in the future.

At this point, the chances of actually defeating Hilary are slim and it's not a race you want to risk ruining the good name of an up and comer in the GOP ranks (can we say Rick Lazio?). Ed Cox will make it a fun race to watch and keep Hilary occupied as well as anyone. I don't understand why the party folks aren't encouraging a run by him.

Rick Lazio ran a poor campaign in 2000.

Rick Lazio ran a poor campaign in 2000.

What did he do that was so bad? The main thing I heard was that he couldn't get some of the big players behind him. That seemed to be less his fault than it was just the fact that Rudy had their hopes up and backed out.

I would think most of the big players don't think Pirro stands a chance. Even if she ran a textbook campaign, could she win without that support?

that move at the debate, approaching her podium waving that document, that finished him.

Ever watched a football game where the team is down with seconds quickly dwindling off the clock? What do they do? They make a hail mary pass instead of doing what they know is the safer bet. Why? Because if they make the safe play, they still lose. With the hail mary, they probably still lose, but it at least gives them a chance.

That's what Lazio's debate move was . . . a political hail mary. He knew he was going to lose if he stuck to a normal campaign. He figured that move wouldn't work, but it was worth a shot.

That may be true, but a friend of gun owners is unlikely to win in New York. Pirro is simply the best choice available, though not the ideal choice.

Never one to shy from the limelight, Pirro has an active schedule planned.

Last night, Mayor Bloomberg hosted a $1,000-a-plate fund-raiser for Pirro at his upper East Side digs. On Feb 10, she will stage a $250-a-head soiree headlined by radio and TV personality Sean Hannity. And this weekend, Pirro is booked to speak to influential Conservative Party operatives."

February is a long ways off. But maybe Hannity will expedite her.
