Polish TV crew in trouble in Russia 02.06.2005

A Polish diplomat from the Moscow Embassy has gone to Ingushetia to investigate the curcumstances of the detention in Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, of three Polish television journalists. After an 8-hour questioning, they had their video cassettes confiscated and were handed over to the Russian Federation security services. They were accused of filming without permission in the region of troops stationing in North Caucasus.

Why would POLISH media types NEED to be filming Russian troops inside RUSSIA???

Now, you know the Russians are fighting the same types of islamics the USA is fighting in Iraq and Afganistan.

I, for one am tired of ANY media trying to undermine the war against islamic terrorists.... whether in Iraq, Afganistan, Gitmo, or Russia.

Why, Poland is helping out in with the USA in the war on terrorism in Iraq. Is the Polish media against that Polish effort in Iraq.... just like our MSM in the USA?

Too bad the Polish media did NOT get permission to film Russian troops. If they filmed Americans troops here in the USA WITHOUT GOVT. permission, they would get in trouble in the USA, as well.

Russia has rules about filming in certain war areas. Obviously, the Polish film crew violated those rules, and deserve to be disclipined. Remember, it's a war zone.

On nonsense! This is a war zone, and even the US has rules for journalists, albeit they are often overlooked by the press. In a war zone insurgents often film areas prior to an attack to gain intelligence.

The war zone includes more than Chechnya. When we were there in Volgograd in November and December of 2003 a train was blown up killing 48 between Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don, which is further north than this from the Caucasus. We sent e-mails back asking our church and friends to pray that we have a safe journey home. After we arrived at the train station in Moscow we took a taxi to the airport, and on the way we passed the National Hotel. I noticed two Mercedes parked back to back in front of the hotel. We missed our connection in New York, and had to spend the night in Cincinnati. I got up the next morning and wandered down for breakfast and to read the paper. I picked up a copy of USA Today, and there was a picture of the two Mercedes in front of the National Hotel. In front of one of the Mercedes was a dead terrorist who had blown herself up minutes after we had passed the previous day.
On the trip over we stayed in a Moscow hotel. Rather than take a taxi to the train station we took the subway to the train station. At the time I thought this would make an excellent place for a terrorist to blow himself up. I believe it was two months later a bomb went off on the same route killing 49 people.

The point I am making is that Russia is a country at war with terrorists, and they still have considerable freedom considering the circumstances.

Don't forget that Russia is responsible for creating those terrorist...I wouldn't compare most of the Chechens with Al-Qaida. The war in Chechnya is different from that one in Iraq. Way over any standards both moral and military. When in Iraq there is some form of abuse (like Abu-Graib) or some separate incidents (unneccesary deaths) in Chechnya at the same time there is a planned or at least uncontrolled slow extermination ot the Chechen nation. Haven't you heard of series of executions of chechen men and women? The whole villages are pacified...Dude, don't mix war on terror with what happens in Chechnya...

THAT IS A BALD FACED LIE. I spent six years on a Special Forces A-Team, and I still have many connections in the Special Ops community. I have good intelligence what is going on in the WOT. Al-Qaeda is in Chechnya, and they have been there for years. On every battlefield in the world where al-Qaeda is fighting you will find dead Chechens, and so please go crawl back in your hole. When I first came on these boards and saw the total lies being told about Russia in Chechnya I blew my top.

We were less than 75 miles to the train that was blown up, less than two or three minutes from the woman terrorist who blew herself up, and on the same subway. Every reasonable person who reads news from different media is aware that in Chechnya there were, are, and most likely will be some Al-Qaida operatives. A common fact. You must be also aware that if it weren't for Russia and it's totaly unprofessional actions most of the todays terrorists wouldn't even think of blewing themselves up in the middle of a crowd of innocent civilians. The whole suicide squads of Chechen women were formed up as a response of what happens there and because there are no men left...
