The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers said it would begin negotiations with ICM Registry Inc., run by British businessman Stuart Lawley, to iron out technical issues and prices for the new Web addresses.

Adult-oriented sites, a $12 billion industry, probably could begin buying "xxx" addresses as early as fall or winter depending on ICM's plans,

I imagine a lot of them do not want xxx addresses as it would enable parents to block them with less difficulty.

Well, actually this would be better for those sites as it would cut down drastically on their liabilities. In fact I believe many in the Adult Entertainment industry was very much for this. And yes, it would do much to help filter these sites.

One thing I never hear mentioned when discussing this non profit and private regulatory agency and how the Internet is setup etc.. is that it is all without government oversight and without government regulation. (The UN is trying to hijack it.) How can that be? People are smart enough to actually do this stuff themselves?

The Internet validates the Libertarian view of the world.

Actually, since minors don't have credit cards, the proprietors probably couldn't care less if they're blocked or not.

I am curious as to why you would think an adult site would be so eager to attract non-paying children. Most of them would prefer customers that have the potential to fork over money instead.

The Internet validates the Libertarian view of the world.

As do spammers, spyware and viruses. I don't want government control of the www - I'm not really sure it *can* control it anyway. But the lawlessness is a nuisance and they, too, seem to embrace the libertarian view of the world.
