A CO2 fire extinguisher works great for this. Freezes and suffocates 'em on contact.

No. It's easier to wait until early morning before it turns light to nuke them. Works for bees too. Both insects need the sun for navigation and are still warm in the evening and can still buzz a little.
If there is a trial for the guy with the shotgun, THAT's the kind of jury duty I want to get called for!
