THREE KENTUCKY OFFICERS SHOT

Authorities release the names of the three police officers and two suspects shot during a standoff in Metcalfe County.

Police responded to a home on 1591 Bridgeport Road to serve arrest warrants on 42-year-old James Allen Coomer.

According to KSP when Trooper Andy Olson and Deputy Kevin Thompson arrived, Coomer fled the home armed with a rifle.

Coomer fired at both officers, wounding Trooper Olson, and Deputy Thompson fired back.

Coomer was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say a second suspect came out of the residence and fired at Deputy Thompson and Edmonton Police Chief Tony Harris, injuring them.

The officers fired back, also injuring the suspect.

All three officers and the second suspect are recovering from non-life threatening injuries at the University of Louisville Hospital.

The investigation is on-going and criminal charges are pending.

This happened yesterday afternoon, around 4pm Eastern, in Metcalfe County, KY, which is just east of Glasgow.

The latest I've heard is that all three officers are in stable condition and the surviving suspect is in serious but stable condition.

Off topic, but I was in KY for the first time last weekend. Went to Churchhill Downs then ate dinner at the Haufbrau Haus in Newport. Good time. More places should serve 32 oz. beers.

Bad news the officers were shot. Good news is that they are recovering and there were three of them there. If there had been one or two of them they would probably be dead.

Yeah, I wondered what they were charged with. A deputy where I live was killed last year while attempting to serve a warrant on a man who had obvious mental problems. I guess you just can't use too much care when serving warrants. It's sad. Does KY have the death penalty?

I just assumed 'Terminal Stupidity' and 'Anti-Social Behavior' charges, and left the finer details to the DA.

The officers had gone out to serve a warrant on burglary charges when they were fired upon.

One BG is dead and his 82 YO father is in serious condition. The father came out of the house shooting after his 42 YO son was shot. The son was being served with a burglary warrant along with a couple of other minor charges.

Hey Callahan! Did you like Hofbrau Haus? Thats a hop, skip and jump from where I live. Nice place over there with that place and Newport on the Levee across the street.

Northern KY has Cincinnati beat hands down. You're lucky you didn't cross the river over to the Ohio side because you take your life in your hands. Right across the river in front of the freedom center, two ladies were robbed at knifepoint last weekend. 7 pm, still light out.

I loved Haufbrau Haus. I went to the original in Munich a few years ago and this is the first time I've seen an attempt at a real German bier hall in the states (outside of Busch Gardens that is, and they only serve American Bud. Not sure why that style of establishment hasn't caught on elsewhere. It's my favorite way to drink. My brother and are talking about opening up our own place.
