Google likes to put up nice little drawings on just about every holiday possible (always using their name "Google" as the centerpiece). Today --Memorial Day--- nothing...
Very rude and a spit in the face of our soldiers IMHO...
I sent them an email asked why.
The internet is slow and iffy tonight. Must be the number of people on.
Excellent point!
Mind if I join in?
What a wonderful hoax!
Convincing the Worldwide Terrorists that we are all a bunch of morons who have nothing to do on Memorial Day except to piss our pants over an imagined slight from the most popular search engine on the planet!
This one to remember!
I guess I get what you're saying.
Do you get what we're saying?
The Googlists are liberal weeneies who honor things like "Earth Day" and other liberal holidays. The two founders are libs who have made a few cracks about "conservatives," "Bush," etc.
Our point is, if most every "special" day is noted by them on their homepage, why not one of our most important national US holidays?
It will be another FR scoop, sleuths in pajamas. It's definitely news.
And by the way: We're not pissing our pants. We're pissed off.
Yawn. Why is it all the newbies who bitch the most about the content of FR?
If you don't like the conversations here, must ask, WHY ARE YOU HERE?
No one directed you to this thread.
What do I think? This is what I think:

Hope you're not offended by my piggybacking on your find, which I credited above. Nice work, for someone in his pajamas.
What is the problem here?
From what we know of google its not that much of a stretch.
Thanks, I let them know how I feel.
I don't know if I would have chosen those words exactly, but there is an element within FR that seems to exist mainly to pick up slights, complain about them and suggest some remedy (usually writing/calling a congressman or boycotting a product). It reminds of the old Lil' Abner cartoon and the protest group SWINE (Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything).
Every thread seems to include posts about "If this was a christian, this wouldn't have turned out this way" or if this were a white, or heterosexual, or American, or conservative, etc, etc. Is FR turning into a group of whiners?
Certainly sometimes we have to work harder because we're not protected special interest groups, but that's life. It's not fair. We can whine about it or we can make ourselves better so we can't be ignored. I know what advice my father, and most of our fathers, would have given.
Certainly there are times where we need to make our voices heard, but every post is not an opportunity to lament how downtrodden we are. We should not act like Jesse Jackson and imagine everything that happens to us is based on discrimination, be it anti-military, anti-conservative, anti-Christian, anti-American or whatever.
I'll get off my soapbox.
Memorial day is not supposed to be a fun holiday like all the other ones that Google celebrates. It annoys me when I hear people say to have a "happy" Memorial day.
Here is the response I received from google/ Working hard to be Un-American.....
Thank you for your note. We enjoy celebrating holidays at Google and are sorry we missed one that's special to you. As you may imagine, it is difficult for us to choose which events to celebrate on our site. We have a long list of holidays that we would like to celebrate in the future. We have to balance this rotating calendar with the need to maintain the consistency of the Google homepage.
Some holidays that we have not celebrated in the past will be rotated into our holiday doodles for future years. Please remember you can visit any of our doodles at http://www.google.com/holidaylogos.html

The Google Team
Ask them when French Surrender day is. They can make the letters all white.
How many Google "logos" for Memorial and Veterans day? ZERO.
Several for Bastille Day. They've even got the Socialist holiday of International Women's Day.

I'm sure you've seen what happens when you enter "French military victories" into their search line. If not, do it---very funny
I think up my own stuff. Try reading about the MARYLAND 400 for inspiration! Beats the heck and darn out of airy Logo.

Furthermore, Google's special logos tend to be lighthearted in nature. If we were to commemorate Memorial Day, we would want to express reverence, rather than mirth. This would be a particularly challenging design. We would not want to, in any way, create a graphic that could be interpreted as disrespectful. In light of the mail we have received about this, we are actively considering designs we could display on this day next year. We welcome any suggestions you may have.

The Google Team
Perhaps we should send them some suggestions. Design suggestions, of course.
I did send them some suggestions. I recommended the American Flag...always in good taste. Perhaps intermingled with flowers...Poppies perhaps?
this is a little much. they don't have x-mas or hannukah designs. they celebrate the obscure days that no percentage of the population would have a problem with them recognizing. now we are lambasting them for not celebrating enough holidays. some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
