REMEMBRANCE Memorial Day 2005 (FORT HOOD)
FORT HOOD ^ | MAY 25 2005 | FORT HOOD

Posted on 05/28/2005 5:08:49 PM PDT by Dubya

Last Memorial Day, we remembered the sacrifice paid by 81 soldiers from Fort Hood. A year later, that number has grown to 151.

Since Fort Hood began its deployments in January 2003, 141 soldiers have died in Iraq, another three in Kuwait and seven in Texas.

The first casualties of the Iraq war happened April 25, 2003 when members of the 720th Military Police Battalion and the 4th Infantry Division, which spent a year in Iraq from April 2003 to April 2004, died in separate accidents.

Losses for the 1st Cavalry Division first occurred in January 2004, two months before the main deployment in March 2004 and within the same platoon.

The 13th Corps Support Command, which has continued to rotate in and out of Iraq since January 2003, also has lost soldiers.

Tragedy struck the 4th Infantry again, this time in Texas as it prepared for its second deployment to Iraq.

On Nov. 29, a Black Hawk helicopter crashed while en-route to Texarkana to inspect vehicle repairs. Seven soldiers were killed in the crash.

The Black Hawk soldiers' heroism, courage and dedication to their country is remembered this Memorial Day along with their comrades who lost their lives in the combat zone.

Here is a brief glimpse of the men and women of Fort Hood who paid the ultimate while serving their country in combat: (147)

I would like to forward a prayer for Doug Clapp, CW5, comrade in arms, who was on that bird heading to the depot...come ye back, Doug, when summer's in the meadow...
