A battle delayed
The Washington Times ^ | 5-27-05 | R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr.

Drat. The battle royal I predicted last week is off in the U.S. Senate. The battle was to be fought between Democrats and Republicans over what conservatives call "the constitutional option" and liberals call "the nuclear option." That it was reported throughout the media as the "nuclear option" is still more evidence the media are liberal. Obviously the argument over whether the media are liberal or not is another of America's unnecessary debates. So too is the argument over whether the president's judicial nominees are "activist" an unnecessary debate. What distinguishes the president's nominees from what in the recent past have been the Democrats' nominees is that the president's nominees pledge that their judgments will be restrained by written law, and the Democrats' nominees make no such pledge. Obviously the judicial nominee who pledges to be restrained by the law cannot possibly be an "activist." The Democrats' nominees can be as "activist" as they want.

It wasn't delayed, it was surrendered.

Actually, it was defeated by treason.

i would like to see Bush ram this through, providing no additional documents for the fishing expedition the Dems are planning. Also, can't believe Rosen got off!

Agreed - no additional information for a such a lame game of pretend, but I'd like to see Frist ram Bolton through by making the Democrats really filibuster.

And isn't it just like old days that Rosen was acquited by a Clinton-appointed judge? I am sure the media will studiously point this out at each juncture, hitting Hillary with such hardball observations whenever she begins to assert that these right-wing accusations have already been dealt with and proven false, as surely as they pressure the judge to recuse himself.

Yeah, get old Sheets Byrd up there to do a repeat of teh '64 Civil Rights Act filibuster and force the old goats to really talk till they drop. Too bad the GOP is equally unwilling to do their jobs and enforce the will of their constituents, the Majority.

That Rosen verdict is exactly why we should have taken the Constitutional Option and shoved it on the Dems. If it were Delay or anyone associated with him who got off from a GW appointed judge (even though it was a jury trial) it would be trumpeted as highly suspicious.

After not seeming to know what to do as a majority, the Republicans are in danger of that burden relieved without having reined in the courts, the UN, and the march to globalism.
