Dissing the Koran
The Weekly Standard ^ | 5/30/05

Posted on 05/22/2005 3:08:55 PM PDT by Valin

While Islamist fanatics and ignorant Westerners sow panic over the alleged desecration of a Koran at Guantanamo Bay, no one mentions a startling fact: When it comes to destruction of the Koran, there's no question who the world champion is--the government of Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi state religion is the primitive and austere Wahhabi version of Islam, which defines many traditional Islamic practices as idolatrous. Notably, the state bans the importation of Korans published elsewhere. When foreign pilgrims arrive at the Saudi border by the millions for the annual journey to Mecca, what happens to the non-Saudi Korans they are carrying?
The border guards confiscate them, to be shredded, pulped, or burned. Beautiful bindings and fine paper are viewed as a particular provocation--all are destroyed. (This on top of the spiritual vandalism the Saudis perpetrate, by inserting anti-Jewish and anti-Christian squibs into the Korans they publish in foreign languages, as Stephen Schwartz documented in our issue of September 27, 2004.)

This behavior isn't a recent innovation, by the way. Here's an account of how the Saudis carried on when they seized the city of Taif in 1802. It's taken from an unimpeachable Islamic source, the compilation Advice for the Muslim, edited by the Turkish scholar Hilmi Isik and published by Hakikat Kitabevi in Istanbul:

The Wahhabis tore up the copies of the Koran . . . and other Islamic books they took from libraries, mosques and houses, and threw them down on the ground. They made sandals from the gold-gilded leather covers of the Koran and other books and wore them on their filthy feet. There were verses of the Koran and other sacred writings on those leather covers. The pages of those valuable books thrown around were so numerous that there was no space to step in the streets of Taif. . . . The Wahhabi bandits, who were gathered from the deserts for looting and who did not know the Koran, tore up all the copies they found and stamped on them. Only three copies of the Koran were saved from the plunder of a major town, Taif.

No wonder anti-Wahhabi Muslims say "the Saudis print the Koran to destroy it." They print it and they destroy it in a daily desecration that makes Newsweek's retracted Guantanamo allegation look trivial by comparison.

The US government should sever and terminate its ties with the Saudi. This house of hypocrytes play it both ways by befriending the West and financing terrorisms and spreading wahhabism all over the world. Its ministry of information is right out of George Orwell 1984. Speaking of closing US military base, why not close those Air Bases in Saudi Arabia ( there 5 from what I remember with 5000 to 7000 personels), since their sole present are to guard and protect the Saudi royal family. Again, Saudi Arabia is not a friend of the US.

That's the problem ... Saudi's endorse the WAHHABI version of this written piece of crap. The time will come when they will NOT accommodate our need for THEIR oil.

I believe we have, moved all our people to Qatar. The Emir built a brand new airbase on spec. Happened last year(?).

This doesn't sound right at all. If I recall correctly, the caliph Omar ordered a commision to codify a single official Koran, as many various versions had been floating about. This version, without any changes, is the one still used today. To suggest that the Saudis are polluting the Koran, for the first time, with anti-Jewish and anti-Christian phrases seems to be really ridiculous.

It also doesn't sound right that the Saudis would publish Korans in a language other than Arabic, which is supposed to be the divine language of Allah. I would think the Wahabbists would consider such a thing to be blasphemous. But then again, Steven Schwartz is a nut and a loose cannon.

I have had it with Muslims, Islam and the shameless pandering of craven, gutless western politicians, Christian religious leaders, and nations towards this bellicose, medieval, aggressive and primitive cult.

Islam spread through the use of naked force, unlike Christianity. Unlike Judaism, it employed forced proselytization - in practise - thoroughout the Mediterranean region.

It approves of second class status for women, third class status for non-Muslims, and in countries governed by Sharia law, non-Muslims are forbidden to openly practice their religion, make improvements to the exterior of their houses of worship, or build new ones.

And these people riot, killing innocent people over the alleged and false desecration of the Koran - as if that were possible.

Neither Jews, Christains, Buddhists, Hindus, etc would have reacted in such a primitive manner.

And yet we continue to allow Wahhabists and other Muslims to immigrate here, open madrassehs and mosques and spew the kind of anti-Jewish and anti-Christian propaganda that never would have been tolerated just a few generations ago.

Ha! And here we are worrying about the Muslims or the world's opinion for that matter.
