If Spector and Hagel vote against the nuclear option Harry Reid, Schumer, and Ted Kennedy will have all the power to approve what judges are acceptable. And Reid said Bush should pick a Souter.

A Schumer staffer was quoted as saying McConnell would be unacceptable along with edith jones and the other 5 names floated around. They are too conservative for Chuckie even though they would be replacing a conservative like Rehnquist.

That traitor Spector is the worst of the worst.

From what I hear from D.C., that IS the deal they are trying to make: two nominees would not get through -- probably Saad and Myers. Then, the Senate would actually compile a list of "acceptable" nominees for the President to choose from. And here's the kicker - they could still filibuster to their hearts content, even from the 'acceptable' list.

And to make it worse: they would vote FOR cloture -- thus letting Owen get an up or down vote and NOT triggering the need for the constitutional option.
