SHUNEH, Jordan (AFP) - The son of Libyan leader Moamar Kadhafi said his country will soon have an embassy in Washington and expected the US to reciprocate, adding the two had "excellent" intelligence cooperation.

"By the end of this year we will have an embassy in Washinton and the United States will have an embassy in Libya," Seif al-Islam Kadhafi told a conference on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in this Dead Sea resort.

Relations between the former foes have been improving since Tripoli agreed to a settlement in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and renounced weapons of mass destruction in 2003.

"We are not close allies but we are not enemies," the younger Kadhafi said of relations with Washington.

"We have an excellent intelligence cooperation," with the United States, he said without elaborating.

On the other hand, he said "the Americans are willing to have military cooperation. We are not enthusiastic about this but we are still considering it."

I'm sure this is a lie. It can't be. Bush has turned the entire Arab world against us, right?

Small detail Kaddaffi missed - the Bush administration is setting up an "embassy" for this scumbag and his dad, but it's a little south of D.C., in a place they call "Gitmo."

I don't know about anyone else, but I will NEVER trust Kadhafi or his family.

Reagan let him feel a bit of our "love" when he lobbed a few bombs / missles into his house. Since he "saw the light"...he's been slowly coming sround and has been keeping his head down. Perhaps he's learned to "play nice" in the global sandbox.

He blew up the plane over Lockerbie almost three years AFTER Reagan blew up his tent. He's not coming around, he's using blood money he has gained using his country as a terrorist base to buy off the families of the Lockerbie dead. He is pretending to be nice with America because he realized two years ago that Bush was very serious about removing supporters of terrorism and he was afraid he would be fairly high up on the list. His "playing nice" will only continue as long as he believes that there is an American President who won't hesitate to take him out, the next 'Rat we get in office and he will go right back to the terrorist thug he has always been.
