LOS ANGELES - An Inglewood man charged with falsely reporting to New Jersey police that a relative in that state was an al-Qaida terrorist who planned to blow up a British Embassy building was ordered held without bail Thursday.

Bukhtiar Abdul Latif Katchi must remain in custody until he can be sent to New Jersey to face the charge. He faces as much as 10 years in prison if convicted.

Police say Katchi and the relative, whose name was not released, were involved in a real estate dispute involving property in Pakistan. The FBI has cleared the relative of any terrorist links.

Katchi, 34, allegedly called police in North Plainfield, N.J., to report that the relative, who lived there, was planning to blow up the British Embassy in Toronto. There is no British Embassy in that city, but Britain does have a consulate office there.

According to court documents, Katchi admitted placing the call from a pay phone in California. Authorities say he told them he got the idea after watching news coverage of a small explosion outside the British Consulate in New York earlier this month.

Must be a very closely-knit extended family. With such relatives...

This logic escapes me. It must just be bad reporting.

That's just great.  We can blow tax dollars on this mohammedhead's incarceration while he is playing games with govt resources.   I'd much rather see a financial penalty so severe he'd leave the country, for good.
