Eight middle school students are in trouble for using a color copier in their science class to make copies of one-and-five dollar bills.
Officials at Wilkerson Middle School said the incident happened Tuesday. The regular teacher was absent and a substitute teacher was in the room. A Birmingham police officer who was on campus saw a student handing copies to other students. The bogus money was seized and the U.S. Secret Service was notified.
School personnel who saw the copied dollars said they looked real. None of the students, however, attempted to spend the fake money.
The eight students, all seventh-graders, were suspended and they face additional disciplinary action including assignment to alternative school and expulsion.

Reminds me of the Beavis and Butthead episode where they were spending $0.10 a copy to make paper nickels.

Geez-loueez! It is not illegal to copy money, or to make counterfeit money. It is illegal to atempt to use it as real money, however.
And what morons couldn't tell copy paper from cloth paper?

School personnel who saw the copied dollars said they looked real. None of the students, however, attempted to spend the fake money. Only because (already having the means and motive) they got caught before they had the opportunity.

Oh man!!! What ever happened to fun???? Suspension for this? That's just bogus. Because when it gets noticed like this...
A Birmingham police officer who was on campus saw a student handing copies...
...being able to handle it informally without official punishment is no longer an option.

Have you seen what lunch prices are like these days? A bottle of juice can set you back a couple of bucks.

Color copiers, let alone a copier, available for students to use in school, and a middle school at that? No wonder the cost of education is skyrocketing. Another nicety "for the children".
