I've got two Mt. St. Helens Christmas ornaments (made from the ash). One blue and one similar to this:

I remember that there was quite a number of cottage industries that cropped up, making all sorts of stuff out of the ash.

My favorite was the "ash" trays. Heh.

Lots of people were making ash-things and selling them.

"Ash trays" were an obvious hit.

My uncle, who lived in Toutle, brought us two buckets of the stuff from his yard.

Selling it to tourists was the only way to get rid of it ;~D

I have a small container of Mt Saint Helen's Ash that they gave out at Kentucky Fried Chicken!
