Hagel is a favorite of the MSM... and he seems to enjoy the attention. Count him in as another Judas. Spector is just 'dying' to fold too.

I don't think we got the votes... or the right players to win this game folks!

Sheldon Whitehouse, former dem AG, is rumoured to be running against Chafee in 06.

He's a damned, worthless commie, but he'll be less of a commie scum than the Senator from Virginia, Linc Chafee.

More likely to vote with the pubs than stinkin Lincoln.

I believe we have the votes or Frist wouldn't be bringing it up for a vote. I'll bet there have been a lot of backroom promising and arm twisting going on in the Senate.

"Spector is just 'dying' to fold too"

Hope he is not literally dying, but he is sick at the moment. Someone on McLaughlin group (the WWF of talking head shows, I know) predicted that Spector will resign and Gov. Rendell (D) will appoint Bob Casey, Jr. (Dem. state treasurer and son of a very good Democrat Governor) to Spector's seat. This would be good news for Santorum; polls have Casey Jr. clobbering Ricko in a senate race, of course the election is not for another year or more.

I do emailing. What happens when you call?... I suppose you have to wait a while... if they pick up at all? And when they pick up, what happens? Do they ask for your Name and address? How long does the whole call last?

If the Dems cave now, they will lose some of their political base. And that will make it easier to get the Supreme Court nominee appointed. We should not change the rules until we've exhausted the alternatives. That's why I say make them do an actual filibuster.

Have you seen the Bush commercials about the judges on TV? Very good commercials. You can't really argue against it. I think the Dems have the short straw on this, and it's just a matter of pushing them to the wall. They'll cave, and if they don't then they will pay a very dear price at the polls.

"...Republicans and the Whitehouse can withhold favors from RINO Chafee and R.I.!"

The closing of the Groton, CT Sub Base could be influential in RI, as it is very close to the border. The closing of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine is also likely to influence the Maine RINOs. At least that is how I see it. Those facilities can still be saved, as the decisions are not final.

All congresscritters in Rhode Island ignore your calls, letters and emails. Even those who live in Virginia, like Chafee.

However, I call all four of them every week, just to annoy them.

RI is 80% Democrat. Chafee is the best the GOP will ever have from that state.

His father was decent. The son is a putz.

If Chaffe doesn't pussy-foot around like he's doing he'll get the boot. Seriously, Jack Reed is the senior senator from R.I. and even longtime senator John Chaffe began his career in the senate at a time when the Northeast was a lot more republican.

Relax, folks.

The fact that Chafee is opposing indicates that Frist already has enough votes to secure passage.

This is a good sign.

Make the Dems do a real filibuster first.

Somewhere I read that they can't do this, because it's not part of the Senate rules that were agreed to at the start of the session. To require a "real filibuster" would require putting that requirement in the rules at the start of the next session.

It would be better to change that rule than to change the filibuster rule.

John may have been better at public relations, and he may have come across as more intelligent, but Lincoln actually has the better voting record.

The American Conservative Union gives John Chafee a lifetime rating of 32. Lincoln has a 41.

To hell with that.

Chafee could have voted for the nuclear option and Against any conservative judge.

We're better off with a democrat in RI. I call on all Repubs to vote Democrat in 2006. Let get rid of this RINO.
He's label of Republican isn't worth the effort.

Its changing Im telling you. It will take a while but its changing. Steve Laffey could have a chance against Chaffee.

I've had it with Chaffee. I called his office today and told them as a voting Republican that I will not be voting for him during the next election, and that I'd rather vote for a Democrat--at least I'd know what I'm getting. I also called Laffey's office and let them know that I'm essentially BEGGING him to run.
