McDermott first up for ethics panel
Washington Times ^ | Monday, May 16, 2005 | By James G. Lakely

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

When the partisan impasse over rules and procedures on the House ethics committee ends, the first member to face the panel won't be House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, but rather Democrat Jim McDermott of Washington. The Seattle-area congressman, one of the most vocal critics of Republicans, has been under investigation by the panel since last year over his role nearly nine years ago in the illegal taping and distribution of a phone conversation involving then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich. A federal court already has determined, for a civil lawsuit against Mr. McDermott, that the liberal lawmaker illegally distributed the tape, a judgment of the sort that usually prompts the House to take some action. Sources close to the committee said the McDermott case was on the agenda for the panel's organizational meeting two weeks ago, but it was removed when it was clear that Democrats wouldn't vote to continue the investigation, as required by committee rules.

Since McDermott's illegal activity was nine years ago doesen't that mean that Delay still has eight years to go before charges are brought up? Hey, fair is fair. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Was that the cell phone call that was intercepted by some couple that said it was accidental and then they turned out to be Democratic activists?

Then you would think this would be open and shut... even if McDermott claims he didn't know they were activists, he surely knew that intercepting phone calls without the consent of either party is illegal... he should have either refused the tape or taken it but called the FBI.

If the Democrats want any credibility for cases they push, they need to own up when a Dem does something wrong.

Except in the case of Traficant. Of course, I'm sure his punishment had nothing to do with his support of a Republican Speaker. < / sarcasm >

Hang him high. Washington State should be ashamed of this traitor who clearly broke a communications law and even worse, goes to a foreign country to trash America and President Bush. Hang the creep!

America's own George Galloway.

The Dems are letting this happen because they think some weak-kneed Republican will just throw up his hands on DeLay and say "Oh, just censure him and be done with this mess." Then the Dems will have the mark on DeLay that they'll need for fundraising.

He serves only one purpose. If Republicans get to draw the Congressional district lines, they try to shove all the liberal areas into Baghdad Jim's district. That makes it theoretically possible to elect Republicans (albeit RINOS) from the surrounding suburban areas where people make enough money to pay taxes, and mind doing so on occasion.

Have you checked the latest vote in Washington State?? King county put the whole state to shame with election fraud. Our current Democrat in the Gov. office came there like any other rat elected illegally. The whole country knows what happened here.

Doesn't that say that McDermott WON'T be the first up for the Ethics Committee because they removed him from the docket because the deathrats wouldn't vote for it?
