Weatherman (Kamal) Says Government Conspired Against Him
WPLG-TV/DT Miami ^ | 5.12.05

MIAMI -- No matter what you've thought up until this point, your opinion of former TV weatherman Bill Kamal might change after watching or reading Part IV of Local 10's exclusive interviews.

Wednesday, Local 10 obtained a letter that Kamal wrote to a federal judge, causing the addition of another night of coverage to this complicated story. This new information will likely leave you wondering whether Kamal is thinking rationally.

During Local 10's prison interview, Kamal made references to a conspiracy theory.

Kamal: "It's me against the United States government."

He questioned whether he became a target while working in Washington, D.C. as a weatherman in the early 1990s. Rumblings spread throughout the local television industry that Kamal had been caught having sex with a minor in a car.

Kamal: "It was like a cancer. In 1993, I was fired during the 'storm of the century.' Nobody could tell me why. They didn't hire anybody for over a year to replace me. Years later, I go back to D.C. where I always visit my friends. I mean this ruined my career at that point."

Kamal believes he was fired for his openly gay lifestyle that was maybe too open for Washington, D.C.

Kamal: "(I was) fired for an alternative lifestyle that was too alternative, or, 'He wore a pair of shorts that were really inappropriate to a company picnic.' I don’t remember wearing the shorts, but maybe I did. That was a lifetime ago for me -- or that I wore an earring that I never wore on the air -- that I had pierced my ear …"

The Washington television station has never commented on that firing. That was 12 years ago. Kamal was never charged with a crime, but in his mind he wonders whether there’s a connection to what’s happening to him now: his arrest in an Internet sex sting, picked up in Fort Pierce where he went to meet a 14-year-old boy.

Kamal pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison, but now questions whether the government was after him.

Kamal: "And pardon me for being paranoid about this, but do you think it’s possible that for 12 years the government or somebody has been watching me and trying to bring me down? I don't know."

And that’s not all he said. He even pointed to the White House.

Kamal: "George Bush-41 would never leave the White House without seeing my forecast. My career spanned five administrations. I personally met three of them. I met Reagan, Bush (and) Clinton. I did the color for his parade, he and Gore, 1992. I mean, they knew all about me. They couldn’t have known anymore about me. I was working on television, scrutinized by the government. They knew my life story. But is it possible that 1991 and '93 -- is it all a puzzle to 2004 - 2005? I don’t know, but I’m just putting this out there."

Now, Kamal's conspiracy theory is entered into the court record.

Local 10 has obtained a letter Kamal sent to Federal Judge K. Michael Moore. The three-page typed letter attacks the judge, Kamal’s attorneys, and continues down the conspiracy path.

Kamal says the Internet stings, like the one that he was caught up in, are being done for political purposes, and he points to the Bush family and the Republican Party, saying:

"It is the Political Ambitions of the Bush family, as Jeb Bush allegedly plans to run for President in 2008, and thereby promote a rather evil Political Party as good and saintly."

In the letter he continues to say:

"The U.S. Constitution is virtually being overthrown. I cannot practically nor morally sit silent and allow these types of treasons through state sponsored terrorism against me."

Kamal tells the judge he’s not guilty, and says the judge "was biased and may have gained politically from my FORCED guilty plea."

Kamal also writes about what he says is the judge’s reputation:

"I have heard you say to a new attorney, "Welcome to the Lion's Den." I have heard from others that it's your mission to sentence "a million years before you retire."

Kamal then goes after his attorneys, saying:

"Judge, in a nutshell, I am NOT guilty of the crime that my attorneys conned and coerced me into pleading to …"

"… my attorneys conned me out of over $125,000 for a jury trial, all the time planning on selling me down the river …"

“It was not only 'The United States of America vs. William David Kamal,' it was 'The United States of America, my counsel, co-counsel, and so called experts VS. William David Kamal.'"

Kamal: "It’s me against the world …"

Judge Moore wouldn’t comment on this new letter or on Kamal’s attempt to appeal. He did order Kamal’s legal team to respond to the allegations within 20 days.

Kamal’s attorney, Jeffrey Volluck, told Local 10 Tuesday that he's disappointed about Kamal's comments. He says the decision to plead guilty was Kamal's alone. Volluck says he didn't talk Kamal into anything.

The letter that was written to Judge Moore only became public Wednesday. If you would like to read the full text of the three-page letter, click here.

Thursday, Local 10 will bring you more on the story as Kamal looks toward the future, and whether he thinks he can ever work in television again.

I know the answer, Mr. Kamal.

You're definitely being watched, and if you don't take steps to protect yourself from the Bush administration's spy beams, they're going to GET YOU!

And I suggest you also check out DemocraticUnderground for the latest tips on who else is involved in the conspiracy.

Good luck!

Sounds to me like someone has an overblown sense of his own self worth.

Bill I don't know how to break this to you but you're just a weatherman, and there are thousands of people who could do your job.

Hey Bill! Were they after you when you were drunk-as-a-skunk running around the Ozone in South Miami or the Cactus off Biscayne? Why dont you call up Craig Stevens, or Belkis or that queen she works with on Deco Drive? Is everyone at WSVN gay? Craig is open about it, Belkis is a roumor and that other queen, well... cmon!

This man looks like he has aged 20 years since his arrest. Amazing.

I don't think his former station is doing him any favors, he's obviously gone off the deep end.
