DOBBS: President Bush tonight signed the Real I.D. Act into law. The legislation will make it much harder for illegal aliens and potential terrors to obtain U.S. driver's licenses. It will also tighten our border security.

President Bush signed the measure at the White House a short time ago. The Real I.D. law is attached to the $82 billion supplemental spending bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some states, however, are resisting Real I.D. Some of those state officials say they should have the right to regulate their own state driver's licenses.

Bill Tucker has the report. ......

Now begins the next phase of our battle to stop the massive (unlawful) invasion of our nation. Next stop: the (liberal) Federal court system.

It's interesting to note that we came through a cold war against people who had mega-missiles pointed at our country, and we never needed to scan the comings and goings of the average American.

Now we're morphing into a European style country that guarantees nothing about terrorists, but puts every citizen into a database of some kind.

When the next 9/11 happens how will the government explain that a national ID system didn't work? Why, they'll say we need more ID's.

How so? My understanding was that if you don't have all the required documentation you can still get a driver's license in a different color, but you can't use it to board a plane or enter federal buildings. Of course, they can just use their national passports for all that.....

How soon before 'Real ID' is necessary to obtain emergency health services (oops, heart attack suffered by a man walking down the street, but no 'Real ID', so we better leave him there on the sidewalk because you never know, he might be a human bomb or something), and as another poster has already pointed out, when the next 9/11-style attack takes place, the government will urge that all Americans agree to have their 'Real ID' data placed in a subdermal chip, and you won't even need a card, you'll be tagged (and bagged) at the whim of Washington.

BTW, the "border" includes nearly every major airport in the country. Then there are the folks who arrive on a tourist or other visitor visa, overstay, and sometimes disappear.

Tell me how "sealing the border" will keep those guys out.

At the moment the state of the law is that if a facility provides emergency treatment to someone they must provide emergency treatment to anyone, ID or not.
