Iraqi police vent anger at US after car bombings
ABC ^ | 5/10/05

Iraqi police hurled insults at US soldiers after two suicide car bomb blasts in Baghdad killed at least seven people and left 19 wounded, including policemen.

"It's all because you're here," a policeman shouted in Arabic at a group of US soldiers after the latest in a bloody wave of attacks that have rocked Baghdad this month.

"Get out of our country and there will be no more explosions," he told the uncomprehending Americans staring at the smouldering wreck of a car bomb.

The explosion wounded three policemen as they stood guard at the entrance to the River Police compound on Abu Nawas street in the centre of the capital.

"We were near the headquarters and all of a sudden a Ford car rushed very fast at the closed gate. One of the guards opened fire and the car stopped, but moments later it exploded," Sergeant Abbas Mohammed told AFP.

"One guard was burnt and is in very critical condition. Two others were caught by the blast," he said.

Another suicide bomber also tried to attack a US army patrol on the central Saadun street but missed and smashed into other vehicles, setting them ablaze.

At least seven civilians were killed and 16 wounded, police and medics said.

"I was driving my bus with many passengers and on the other side of the street a US convoy was passing by," 45-year-old minibus driver Abdullah Jassim Mohammed said.

"All of a sudden there was a big explosion and I saw a man dying in front of me. The US convoy was unharmed," the driver said, who sustained slight head wounds.

"Since Americans invaded our country they have brought nothing but evil."

Hey Abdullah, would have you spoken so freely to the press before the Americans and coalition forces got there? Hmmmmm?

Might want to ask that "policeman" a few questions. I figure that police force must be lousy with insurgent agents.

Oh yes, Iraq was a Bastian of fairness and morality before we arrived.... with its rape rooms and torture chambers.... be serious.

I'm sure under Saddam he was free to say all the foul things about the US he wanted to. :)

It may be reflective of ignorance by many average Iraqis. Maybe a U.S. convoy was teh target here, but don't they see that the terrorists have to destroy the Iraqi infrastructure to take over? Most attacks these days are on Iraqi police recruits. Imagine the holy hell that would break loose if we were not providing some security? Attacks on all institutions would increase, and the whole society would be at war or under totalitarianism in the aftermath.

Why is it that our soldiers are there in the first place, could it be the bad economy drove them to join the Army to find a job. . . .oh, I'm sorry, forgive me, I just had a MSM/Dan Rather moment.

They'll probably send it over to CBS, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC so they can highlight it as well.

Iraqi Infrastructure?

If our guys have to provide security for the Iraqi police, "infrastructure" may be pushing it a little bit...

Yeah, I'm sure Al Qaeda will be content to leave Iraq then and to see democracy flourish unmolested. Why no stories on the Iraqis pissed off at the foreign fighter sub-humans who are launching these car bombs?? I bet there's a hell of a lot more of them than this idiot policeman.

Could be that if this policeman was doing something that resembled his job, there wouldn't be so many bombers...

And once we're gone, the sunni and foreign terrorists will make mincemeat out of the shi-ites, unless we get them first...

These Iraqis are incredibly lucky that their wives, sisters and daughters didn't wind up in Sadaam's rape rooms and they escaped the shredder.

Truth be told, WE WANT to get out of there, ASAP too! As soon as those folks get a grip on their country, we leavin!

But if this fellow thinks that a quick exit by the USA would stop these bombings and violence, he is sorely mistaken.

And, dollars to doughnuts, I would bet that they were Sunnis.

The Shiites and Kurds know that, if the U.S. bugged out, the Sunni Baathists would kill another 50,000 Kurds and another 30,000-80,000 Shiites just as they did after the Gulf War.

The 20% of the Iraqi population that is Sunni has good reason to hate America's guts. We liberated their slaves.

I remember reading recently that they have a problem with insurgents infiltrating into their military and security systems! Although they've been trying to screen them more thoroughly now.

Iraqi police hurled insults at US soldiers, Jane Fonda, would be proud. I personally would love to introduce this Iraqi policeman to a Western custom. A good old fashioned Redneck "talking too". Jeff
