Just like Hannibal Smith says. "I love it when a plan comes together!"

It sounds tempting, but come the revolution (and it will come one day) gated communities of ex-pats are going to be very tempting and probable targets. The last thing I would be doing now is buying a house in a near third world country.

>>>Lots of Americans have retired to Mexico because the cost of living is cheaper.

Yes, and I follow a couple of posters on other forums who have done so. One relocates from Mazatlan to Guadalajara depending on the season (he rents), and is very happy. In fact, a couple of years ago he moved back to the northwest U.S. and lasted only a couple of months before he ended up in Mexico again. Has broadband and lots of conveniences including a satisfactory Medical plan. In fact, I import several generics from Mexico myself.

Lake Chapala, one typical ex-pat destination:

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure that certain ostentatious communities in Southern California would be all that much more secure.

Were I to relocate in Mexico, and I might, I would try to pick a location and style that blends in more with local business people, etc.
