WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush joked about hosting the White House Cinco de Mayo party on Wednesday, May 4, saying, "Next year I'm going to have to work on my math."

"The way I see it is mi casa es su casa (my house is your house)," Bush told guests, many of Mexican-American or Hispanic heritage, seated in the Rose Garden at tables decorated in bright pink, blue and green.

"I always look forward to Cinco de Mayo especially because it gives me a chance to practice my Spanish," he said. "My only problem this year is I scheduled the dinner on cuatro de Mayo. Next year, I'm going to have to work on my math."

Cinco de Mayo, the fifth of May, commemorates the 1862 Battle of Puebla in which Mexican troops defeated invading French forces. It is marked by celebrations in Mexico and the Mexican-American community.

"The United States and Mexico are united by ties of family, faith in God and a deep love for freedom," Bush said.

But there have been tensions between the two countries over Mexico's opposition to the Iraq war and stalled efforts to ease U.S. immigration rules to benefit Mexican workers.

"Mexican-Americans are also strengthening our country with their patriotism and service. Thousands of Mexican-Americans have sacrificed in the armed services for our freedom," Bush said, adding 8,700 men and women born in Mexico were now in the U.S. military.

mi casa es su casa - Yes George, the American people can see that turning a blind eye to the borders will ensure that our house is their house someday...

It is real evident that Bush beleives "My house is your house". Just one problem with that. His house is our house. I am not near as benevolent as President Bush.

Beginning to wonder if Mexico's Fox is holding any incriminating pictures of the President.

Makes me wonder how many of the guests were illegal immigrants.

"I always look forward to Cinco de Mayo especially because it gives me a chance to practice my Spanish," he said."

Me too.

"Esta es Los Estados Unidos del Norte. (or is it "Estos estan Los Estados Unidos Unidos del Norte"? - Its been a lot of years since "El Camino Real".) Aqui hablamos Engles".

But then EVERYDAY has become El Cinco De Mayo" for thousands of illegal invaders who slither across our borders every day while the "Federales" actively aid and abet them and even shoot at Americans trying to stop them.

I don't know why this administration is so wedded to pandering to Mexico, but its got to stop.

Hey, any excuse to celebrate a victory over the French is okay with me.

Why the hell would our President celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the White House? Is he going to celebrate Bastille Day too? This is ridiculous!

"The United States and Mexico are united by ties of family, faith in God, and a deep love for freedom, a desire to use peons as slave labor and, most importantly, drug money", Bush said.

But there have been tensions between the two countries over Mexico's opposition to the Iraq war and stalled efforts to ease erase U.S. immigration rules to benefit Mexican workers and to further burden the American taxpayer.

It's just fluff.

The President always makes a big deal over St Patrick's Day as well.

Boy, if we're stalled at easing immigration rules at this point, I'd hate to see what would happen if we let up!

You said it.I live in California and I'm a contractor, no one deals with this problem more than me.This state is 15 billion in debt, mainly because of the social services the state hands out to the illegals, schools, medical.Don't get me going on what it is like going to a local hospital if you get hurt or sick! I blame the politicians for the problem, absolute negligence, both parties.I don't dislike the illegals, I feel for them, but the situation is unacceptable.

No kidding, George, your immigration policy is no secret.

Fox's term ends in 2006. I'll bet that in 2007 we'll fix our little problem with illegal imigration from Mexico. By that time we should be pulling troops out of Iraq and placing them on the borders.

Okay I am about to get a total flaming over this question BUT (and I am not saying I am an advocate of open borders)
I would love to know others Christians perspectives on the border situation and the extreme poverty in Mexico? Rather than complaining about it, what tangible evidence do we offer that we are "loving" this country in all seriousness? I am not stating I have the answers and I am not saying that I am for open borders....but W.W.J.D.....OKAY FLAME AWAY....LOL.
