Just a week after a Manhattan hospital was blamed for the death of a patient from Legionnaires' disease, another said that it may have found the bacteria inside of it as well.

Harlem Hospital Center officials said traces of legionella bacteria was found on a sink and a shower head at its building on West 136th Street. But the hospital said no cases of the disease was found in patients.

Officials at the hospital said they were superheating its water supply and taking additional steps to kill the bacteria.

The news comes just after four patients contracted Legionnaires' disease at Columbia/Presbyterian Hospital in its Millstein building. Two patients later died and an autopsy on one showed that the disease was the cause of death.

A state Health Department spokesperson said the agency is investigating the finding at Harlem Hospital to ensure patient safety.

Columbia Presbyterian has a pretty good reputation. It's supposed to be one of the better New York hospitals.

I believe the problem at Columbia Presbyterian was with the water system; not the hospital staff.

That's the usual source. When I was on the recipient end of an outbreak the Air Conditioner was the source.

The link I have at post 1 has a compilation of Legionnaire's outbreaks. All seem to be either from the air conditioner or water.
