The Arlington County Police Department this week will inaugurate a Spanish-language version of its Citizens Police Academy program. The initiative is part of the police departments emphasis on outreach to Arlingtons growing Latino community.
The Citizens Police Academy was launched in 1999 in order to promote better understanding and cooperation between the police department and the community. It offers an in-depth look into police training and operations, including defensive tactics, accident investigation, gang interdiction and K-9 activities. Nearly 200 local residents have participated in the program.
The new Spanish-language classes will be taught using state-of-the-art technology that enables a professional interpreter to provide simultaneous interpretation of the material being covered.
I'm fed up with all this Spanish crap.....they are in OUR country and OUR language is English. It's past time to stop cattering to them. Everything I buy, everywhere I go, and every company I call, has a Spanish language version too. I'll bet Mexico doesn't have all that in English.
Maybe the Latinos have trouble with the law because they do not know the law. Maybe they do not know the law because they cannot speak or read the English language. Maybe if they HAD to know English to avoid problems with authorities, they would LEARN ENGLISH!!! Why are we reinforcing a bad situation?
What will help the cops is enforcing illegal immigration laws, but sadly no one in the Beltway will do so.
God,so am I and shame on the Arlington County PD>
I just got in from errands and saw all sorts of flags flying about upcoming Cinco de Mayo festivites.
What the hell?
No kidding. My daughter joined the Peace Corps (hold all comments please) and went to Costa Rica. Did they send her to an English speaking area? Did the local have to speak English to her? Were all the signs in English too? Hell no. They threw her in the deep end, into a Spanish speaking environment. Sink or swim. Guess what? She floundered at first but is now doing well.
Now if it works for the Peace Corps why not for every other government agency. LEARN ENGLISH OR LEAVE.
