PUDS: hiker talk for pointless ups and downs. ie, the trail follows the lay of the land but after a huge "up" there is no reward like a nice view or anything neat...you are just slogging on to the next one.

but you are right...each trail has its adventure. i can think of only a few that were not worth doing.

Jeez, dude...lighten up!

Here on this coast, the worst I would encounter is a bear or a rattler, maybe a cougar. And really, after hundreds of hike-miles along the AT and other trails, I've seen none of those.

I'm not saying "Don't carry". But one does wonder about the proficiency of some to handle arms based on their lack of proficiency on the trail.

It sounds like you are more of a pro hiker. I just like to "go a wandering", usually with someone else.

I will say that I often want to go on when Daddy gets tired.
