Good time to switch to DVDs, especially if you're going to be renting.

Its just to easy to tape over the "protection hole" on the recorded tapes. Unless there is a way to defeat that, I suppose anyone could dub over a rental tape. DVD recorders are cheaper now than VCR's so at least that won't be a problem for long, and as for the new DVD recorders, I suppose you can't copy those because of copy protection as easily. With video tape even if it had "macro-vision" protection, it was easy to defeat with a macro-scrubber type device. Its to bad people think its funny to do things like that.

Am I the only one cynical enough to presume the 12 year old son isn't being entirely forthcoming, about when the tape got that way?

Easiest thing in the world. Rent the tape under someone else's name, put some cellophane tape over the write protect hole, put it in VCR 2 and push Record. Put the porn tape in VCR 1 and push play. When done, remove the cellophane tape.

If you don't have two VCR's, record from your local porn channel (thank your local ACLU chapter)
