The Brazilian government grants the diplomatic asylum to Gutierrez

BRASILIA - the Brazilian government "made the decision to grant the diplomatic asylum" to the president relieved of Ecuador, Lucio Gutierrez, announced to Wednesday evening with AFP in Brasilia a spokesman of the Brazilian ministry of the foreign Relations.

This same ministry had announced a little earlier than Lucio Gutierrez had taken refuge with the embassy of Brazil with Quito and had required asylum.

"To give the political asylum is a regional tradition and is registered in the public international law", had indicated the ministry. It had added that the government of Brasilia followed with concern the Ecuadorian political crisis and wished a peaceful solution which would ensure institutional stability in this country.

The Ecuadorian Parliament relieved Wednesday president Lucio Gutierrez and named in its place the vice-president Alfredo Palacio, to stop a social crisis and policy which was radicalized with increasingly violent demonstrations.

Ecuadorians get kudos for fighting these guys. Lucio was of the same ilk as Chavez. We could have ended up with millions of desparate Ecuadorians on our shores. They did what Cubans and Venezuelans weren't able to, twice. Unfortunately the media really doesn't do its' job in exposing these creeps and the media in latin America is even worse and has people in the dark. It's not their fault they fall for these despots. They never know what to believe.
