Bellow had no religious authority in Judaism nor did he represent the ancient religious traditions of Judaism.
He was a prolific author with occasional flashes of brilliance, and his life story - which involved love of literature and infatuation with and then wistful dissociation from militant Marxism - was hardly an exclusively Jewish mode de vivre.

Some very great authors have won it (Faulkner, Eliot). Many very great authors have been ignored by the Nobel Committee.

We can play this semantic game forever, but the word "Allah" is now standard in Arabic speaking lands because of the imposition of the Arabic of the Koran as the standard dialect in these regions. Semitic Christians used the word "Eloi" or "Elai" before the speech of the region was made uniform by the sword of the "Prophet".
